Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaMy room facing Oban Inn received music/crowd/street noise but foreseeable & not personally an issue for me. The OI is actually a great traditional Pub with atmosphere, attentive staff & music. 🙂
Fantastic town centre location. Seaviews but even my view back over town & uphill was scenic. Good cooked breakfast in a nice breakfast room with view to Sea. Wait staff pleasant, helpful & efficient. Single room well furnished & comfortable. Shower reliable & hot. Old Victorian Hotel with same era lift (elevator) much appreciated for arrival/departure with luggage but between that I somehow preferred to walk the 56 stairs to my 2nd storey room. 😆 Next door to very helpful Oban Tourist Info Office open 7 days.

United StatesThings happen and we understand that but when our ceiling was leaking it was proses that only half our group move to a different room and the rest remain in the room with the leaking ceiling. In the new room the heater wouldn’t turn on, this too ended up being fine but it certainly could have turned out differently

United KingdomOnly hotel restaurant and bar is now a pizza/pasta facility. Separate breakfast room. Room booked was a single with a view. Queen- sized bed seems to slope towards the centre of the room so sleep was difficult. "Victorian" lift might be off-putting to younger or foreign guests and I'm surprised it is still regarded as safe. Low water pressure on top floor - not enough for a decent shower.
Another of those classic, once opulent, Highland hotels that have seen better days. Hotel was adequate but pricey for the standards on offer. I booked a single room with harbour view and the view was THE BEST, which more than makes up for other failings. Large bedroom and massive (but empty) bathroom.

United KingdomCouldn’t fault anything with the property .
Hotel was clean & tidy, wasn’t too pleased to pay an extra £50.00 for Sea View as Hotel wasn’t full while we were there, restaurant/staff/food very good, would recommend as very central.

Location was great. Asked for a sea view when we booked and they accommodated us. It was right on the water and just around the corner from a restaurant where we dined. The rooms were nice sized as well as the bathroom and I love that there is always a tea pot.

GermanyI found it difficult to switch on the rather old-fashioned storage heating in the bedroom because the switches are covered with a plastic cover, which makes it look as if they are "out of bounds". As a guest, you don't want to do something which could damage the facilities and cause expense. Having clear written instructions to follow would have saved me peering at radiator and then having to go down to the reception. I sensed from the reaction of the staff member that this was a question he had to answer frequently. I know a lot of paper was taken from the room during COVID, but a laminated explanation on the wall could be wiped between room occupants. The towel rail in the bathroom warned that it was "extremely hot", which unfortunately never happened, not surprisingly as i It was taped together with gaffer tap and the switch had broken off. The staff member on the second day of my stay said he would try to organise an engineer to repair it, but this didn't happen. The weather wasn't so cold that having no heating in the bathroom spoiled my stay, but at approx. £130 per night without breakfast, one could reasonably expect heating facilities in both rooms to be functioning properly., At the time when the chamber maid was airing the room, a fly must have got into the room and then died on its back with its feet up under my pillow. It wasn't the sleeping companion I might have hoped for so I checked if it had any companions, which it didn't, and discretely laid it to rest in the bin. Had it been a Gold Retriever, I'd have rated you "excellent"...
I booked a "room with a sea view" and the view was indeed magnificent. I could look out over the harbour and waters to Kerrera and the mountains of Mull beyond. Boats coming and going, light changing. Beautiful and relaxing. The room was comfortable with tea/coffee making facilities, which were replenished each day. Bathroom had a bath with shower. The staff members on reception were helpful (though didn't succeed in solving my issue - see next section) It was handy to be able to walk through the hotel and directly into their Italian Restaurant on my first night there.
