How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The first room we had was not good, there was a smell coming from the toilet. But, despite being fully booked, our complaint was taken kindly and seriously and we were promptly moved (to a nicer room!). Details on Booking don't mention you have to pay for parking, BUT it was very cheap and easy to do. Bit of a walk into town and I struggled to get a cab back late at night. But the price was excellent compared to the city centre.
The room we ended up staying in was modern and clean, really decent size and good shower. Staff were super friendly and helpful, and there were lots of little touches to make stay extra comfy, e.g. some drinks available at reception. Access to restaurant a bonus, was a little loud in the evening but couldn't hear anything in the room so all good. Late entry super easy and felt safe and well-supervised.

Noisy can hear the cars/other rooms v.clearly
Great location, if you’re not wanting to hit the traffic in the centre. I was staying there for the half marathon @ Burton Constable, so perfect location. Staff friendly & helpful. & had on-site parking with a cost.

Restaurant not open on a Fri night A few too many reminders of "you will be charged for damage to room/smoking in room/lost key cards.." etc. Valid charges perhaps but the various notices didn't feel very welcoming.
Cleanliness, soft drinks, and snacks available to purchase at reception. Premier Inn is much more expensive and you sti have to pay £10 to park so I felt the parking charge was reasonable. The complaints about this and small rooms aren't valid; the hotel is priced accordingly and is very good VFM.

It’s a pain having to pay extra for parking overnight. Bedrooms quite basic if you’re travelling for work - - no desk & chair.
Easy to find and get to. Quiet place and nice comfortable bedroom .

My room this time was at ground level, facing the main crossroads. Double glazing meant that the noise of the traffic was inaudible but ... and I hated this ... it also meant that the window didn't open. I found the room claustrophobic - usually sleep with a window open.
The Cornmill is always welcoming and friendly. The rooms are clean, well designed and presented and the beds are very comfortable. Having the Osteria restaurant on site is also a real bonus - excellent Italian food.

Bed had new mattress but was uncomfortable I gave feedback when checking out and the member of staff listened and was going to look into it.. This wasn't a big deal as I was only staying one night.
Room was a good size (triple). Very clean. Staff welcoming - was greeted by a different member of staff to a previous stay and there was consistency in the welcome and approach.

The bed was very uncomfortable, and we did not get a good night's sleep, could do with being replaced. Other than that, it was perfectly fine.

Shame about the abrupt, verging on rude, receptionist we encountered on our arrival. She definitely does not have customer service skills required for a front of house position. Also was not overly impressed to have to pay to park in the hotels own car park.
The rooms and facilities at the Cornmill Hotel were clean and very pleasant. The location was perfect for ease of access to our work site at the docks.
