Warm welcome after day’s walking in frequently wet weather. We were given an upgrade to our room which was greatly appreciated….. able to spread out damp outer clothes…. Comfortable wide king size bed …. Etc Interesting conversations with staff and locals in the bar.

Be aware there is no lift to the rooms upstairs (wasn’t an issue for us).

We were looking for somewhere to stay overnight near the motorway on the drive north from Surrey. Found this gem. Had a nice evening meal in the restaurant and breakfast was very filling (traditional Scottish cooked breakfast with haggis and tattie scone). Friendly staff. Quiet room. Clean.

The cold room could of had small heater in room for these occasions as was fan in cupboard for warm days. Mattress was rubbish sat on went flat not good nights sleep.

Sadly the bed was extremely hard and as a side sleeper I kept waking with aching shoulders. No Lorne sausage or black pudding available at breakfast. 10am checkout a little early.

The Amazing Lucy. Lucy was behind the bar when we arrived, serving a couple of locals. She seemed to be on her own, but greeted us professionally and checked us in. At dinner she waited on us as well as manning the bar and checking in other guests. She was friendly, organised and attentive. We were really impressed. The room (Room 4) was very spacious and had everything we needed for an overnight stay, and you could comfortably stay a week with ample storage for clothing and still plenty of floor space. Large Bay window, fully double glazed and blackout curtains. Traditionally furnished, clean and in keeping with the property. Bathroom. Large bath with shower, lots of hot water, heated towel rail. Dinner. I was attracted by the small but interesting menu, and was not disappointed with the quality of the food. Very good indeed. Breakfast, service, quality and quantity was very good.
