How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

At breakfast and handing out of menus weren’t given out in order of arrival and had to wait a while to be seated, as waiter was chatting to other guests and not aware, although guest pointed that I was waiting and the response was doesn’t matter my colleague will be back in a minute! These are small things but about good service.
My room was lovely, loved all the little extras, very clean and comfortable. I had a room upgrade which was a bonus. Great location

Only one tiny thing-the corridors look a little shabby and could do with a bit of tlc but the main parts of the hotel are charming and tasteful.
Comfortable rooms, lovely atmosphere and amazing staff.

Nothing could have been better, the staff are lovely, friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was superb and our room perfect. Disappointed not to encounter any ghosts lol
our room beat all our expectations, it was large, clean and well stocked with tea, coffee, biscuits etc, the Adnams beer and crisps were an added bonus, parking was easy and convenient. We booked dinner in the dining room on our first night and the service and food was excellent. Breakfast was plentiful and set us up for the day.

Room no 1 upgrade, as a solo traveller I felt so safe and comfortable. Fabulous guest tray of teas, coffees, hot chocolate, beers, biscuits & crisps. Definitely my home away from home. Thank you for your warmth 🦚

The mozzies in the bathroom!! Not sure if just the time of year, and we didn’t get bitten, however was a little off putting on arrival!!

Breakfast was good but I felt there was to much rich food.

I had previously requested a bottle of champagne to be in our room on arrival. But the request got lost in messages on here. It was quickly rectified by the lovely lady on reception.

Nothing really.
Good Breakfast choice served well. The room was spacious and clean with all the amenities. Dinner used local products and was well served. The hotel had character and was quietly relaxing. The staff were all excellent. It had parking facilities off road and was ideally situated in the centre of town. The prices were reasonable and the wine and drinks menu suited all tastes.

Having to come home!
Great location. Room very clean & comfortable. Adnams beer & crisps in the room added a nice touch. Breakfast very good with a good choice which changed mid way through the week. The granola according to my wife was the best ever! Only ate in the restaurant one evening but very good.

NA - enjoyed it all.
Hotel staff were exceptionally friendly. Great location, useful car park, lovely room (we enjoyed the complimentary bottles of Ghost Ship, thank you!). We had a whistle-stop stay, which was a shame because there is a lovely reading room up the stairs and the restaurant looked great - however these are things we will enjoy next time! Delicious and plentiful breakfast. Looking forwards to returning already.

Everything went very smoothly. The hotel staff were all very friendly and efficient. The room was comfy with everything in it that I would have wanted fo find. Breakfast was lovely. Location of the hotel couldn't be better, being right in the centre of Southwold.
