How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Nothing as everything was fine. Guest house was clean and in a good area.
It was a nice guest house, and I had a single room on the ground floor. There was plenty of time for breakfast and there was a good choice. Guest house is not far from bus stops and lots of shops . Mobin, the owner, was helpful, and I enjoyed my stay and would stay again if I came to Edinburgh .

A chair in the room would have helped.
The breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Good service. Downstairs room which although small was adequate for one night stay. Good shower and hot water in taps. Beverage facilities good.

Arrived on a very wet day to an invitingly warm and comfortable room to dry off and relax in. Staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast delicious and great location for exploring Edinburgh.

We liked the breakfast very much, it was fresh, and everything was possible: fruit, toast, bacon, eggs sausages. Juice, milk, coffee tea. You name it. All fresh. Really excellent. Very clean, lovely shower. A very friendly host, The location was nearby the centre of Edinbrugh. If we ever come back we will stay again at Cruachan Guesthouse. Good communication before our stay. It was a nice welcome.

The staff were very helpful. The room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was nicely presented. The location was good, only a short bus ride or walk into the city centre. Overall, excellent value for money and would stay again.

The rooms were comfortable and clean. We liked the location but there wasn't a great deal of pubs or restaurants nearby. Overall good value for money for a basic bnb. The host was welcoming

The host was very friendly and cooked us a delightful breakfast every morning. The room was spacious with comfy beds and clean sheets. The guesthouse is located not too far from the city center and we managed everything by foot. Would recommend! Absolutely would stay again.

Carpet could have been vacuumed a little better but overall the place was clean. Smaller bed and shower than we are accustomed to sharing but comfortable and everything worked well.
location was good for touring the city. It is located on a quite street and not far from lots of things to do

Only thing I personally found was a bit of road noise but then I'm a light sleeper.
Location was really good. I walked to the castle in 12 minutes and there were plenty of shops nearby. The bus service was fabulous and the number 10 picked up about 100 yards away and took us directly to the Royal Yacht Brittania. As my husband has a disability this was most welcome. The owner is a lovely kind and thoughtful person and makes sure your stay is special. Breakfast was as good as we expected from previous reviews, Haggis included!! Lovely and clean throughout, bed really comfy and cosy. Highly recommended.

For us personally we didn't like the bed,the mattress was way too soft .we never complained because we were only there for 2 nights and some couples may like a soft bed
The owner was friendly the location was ideal the breakfast was adequate and tasty. Room was small but for the two of us it was OK. Tea and coffee was available in the room .Room cleaned everyday plus towels changed.
