How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

TV is not as pictured, Shower is in the room and not the bathroom, street light right outside room made for very bright room at night (even with closed curtains)
Needed a late check In and were given very easy instructions to do this, everything worked well, bed was comfortable

Was pleased with everything, can't complain
Price,room was clean, facilities were good , staff helpful and friendly, I actually stayed 2nights as my friends were going Friday so I rang the accommodation on Thursday and they did abit of shuffling and got the room I booked for Saturday on the Friday as well and sorted out a fair price for a last minute booking.

There was no one available to check me in in person but the lovely lady on the phone talked me through how to access my room. She was very helpful and patient.
The room was small but well-equipped. For a budget night one-night stay near York city centre the room was perfect and well-priced. It was good to have small touches provided like tea and coffee and shower gel.

My room was a bit close to the front entrance and you could hear people coming and going from the hotel. Some of the amenities in the room seemed to be damaged e.g. cupboard doorhandles, fan didn’t work on the ceiling. While appreciated the fridge was placed in an awkward position. You needed to be an acrobat to get at it behind the bed.
Even though the hotel room seemed a bit shabby in the decorating department. It was fairly clean and we did get a good night sleep.

No one came to greet up. It was on the phone didn't feel welcome. Toilet and shower was outside bedroom. And white and brown marks on purple bedding

The location was pretty good and the villa itself really clean and cozy, they answered everytime we called their office number. They also stored our luggage after we checked out, which was very helpful. We really enjoyed our stay.

The toilet cubicle was tiny!
Property provided a comfortable, if fairly basic, room, it’s a guesthouse not a B&B so no breakfast included. Very clean, bed comfy, tea and coffee making facilities, fridge, hot shower.

I would have liked to have been a little closer to town. I had everything that I needed but I found the room very basic. You get what you pay for.

in the morning we were abruptly woken up by banging on the door by the housekeeper, after telling her we were getting ready she proceeded to bang on the door. she then moved to the back door where she did the same. we told her the same thing - we are getting changed. (we were 5 minutes over time by this point) the first time she banged on the door it was before the checkout time. this went on several times, she then opened the door and held it open with her foot and wouldn’t shut it. this was very invasive and inappropriate of her. i am upset and frustrated as we’ve never had an experience like this before. hope she doesn’t do this to anyone else !!!! but apart from that the room was great as always.
