The only niggle was the flashing smoke alarm which disturbed an otherwise dark and peaceful room at night.

Stunning, tranquil setting and the grounds and view were beautiful . Plentiful breakfast and extremely comfortable bed .

Would have been nice to have had an evening meal as the hotel is so remote you need to travel out if you can't get a meal across the road - this did not spoil our stay though and hopefully this will be reintroduced soon.

The location was amazing. The lady that greeted us was lovely, and the rest of the family to.....nothing too much trouble. Rooms clean and tidy and the house has an relaxing atmosphere, some would say dated but i would say in keeping with the house. Little gem of a hotel that we will definitely visit again. Fantastic views of the lake and mountains. Was such a relaxing weekend

Noise from the next room was bearable, but not at 5am. Smoke alarm blinking lights were very intrusive in the pitch blackness of a Lake District night.

Hotel was in a peaceful location with a great view of Thirlmere. Bedroom was a good size and had a bath. All the usual accessories in the room for tea and coffee. The lounge was a very nice room, again great view towards Thirlmere. House had a 'villa-like' quality with the grounds and paths down to the lake. Lots of character inside and out. Good welcome from the staff and very good breakfast. Wi-fi throughout the building worked without a hitch. Will definitely consider Dale Head again.

The location was very quiet. Also very beautiful.

Internet connection was good in the first day, as soon as more people started coming it dropped. In the end it was really poor. Breakfast speed was affected due other guests - quality was not affected.

Good room size, good shower. Incredible view from our window - fantastic! Cosy place, common areas were nice and friendly people. Breakfast options were fine, enough and flexible to be adjustable as per orders.

Would have liked to be able to have an evening meal but there is a pub literally at the bottom of the lane that served excellent food so it wasn't really a problem.

The setting was exceptional. Loved the quirkiness of such an old building Bed was amazingly comfortable

Signposting of the entrance could be better. The first time we got here, we nearly got caught out by the sharp turn into the entrance road. The path down to the lake could be improved - not easy for elderly or infirm people.

The location of the hotel was superb. The property itself had a lot of character and the grounds were worth exploring, particularly the lakeside, which had stunning views. The breakfast was also sumptuous and delicious.

Floor was uneven, even though that's expected for an old building. Being picky, the curtain rails were metal on metal which resulted in a very high pitched screech when you close the curtains. The lack of reception was a little inconvenient, having to wait in the lounge after ringing the bell for a while was a little annoying, but nothing major.

Staff were friendly, view was amazing, bed extremely comfy, bathroom stylish.

We were supposed to get a room with a mountain view and a lake view but we were put in room 13 at the back on the ground floor facing another building - at a stretch I suppose you could say you could see a little bit of a mountain round the side of it!!

The staff were very friendly and could not do enough for you - they fixed my mobile so it worked somehow even though there is no service here and at some expense I guess they fixed the bathroom towel rail which was not working. It was a lovely warm bedroom with a tv with loads of channels but you had to work at it with the remote to find them, and we got hot chocolate, cookies and loads of milk sticks. The bathroom was also rather unusual with some interesting mirrors and no matter what we did even after taking the towels off the towel rail it was always freezing cold! However, there was always somebody on hand if you pressed a bell outside in the corridor and whilst we had our breakfast which was just right we watched all the birds, rabbits, etc on the back lawn overlooking the lake. Also, virtually just across the road from the bottom of the driveway is the King's Head Inn where the staff were very attentive and the quantity and quality of the food was awesome - the Traveler's Rest on the way into Grasmere is also an amazing pub. If the weather is bad there is the Mine Experience at Honnister pass which we did and it was a bit of fun, educational and very authentic, we also did the Aquarium at Maryport which was very interesting and the cheeseburgers were superb ,however, you also had to pay to park here before paying to go in. We also went to Whitehaven where there's a museum on the seafront The Beacon which is full of interesting games to play and it is very informative - just watch out for the speed bumps in the town centre they are horrendous. If the weather had been better we would have gone to the Wildlife Park near Keswick but did not do the Osprey Centre as it was March when we stayed and they do not arrive until April.

Best to talk to the hotel about the type of room you prefer.

Family run hotel. Restaurant was closed so we had to go out for dinner. Slightly quirky and a little tired in some areas. Great location, good parking once you know where the overflow parking is located. Very good breakfast. Staff are friendly and attentive.
