Fantastic service from the hotel staff - we arrived early in the morning from the sleeper train and they worked hard to get our room ready while we had breakfast and a coffee. Great location and very comfortable rooms. Friendly and attentive staff at breakfast in the restaurant

Not the thickest of walls for noise insulation. The heating unit / fan did make quite a bit of noise when running or let noise leak in from other rooms so could disturb sleep and the pillows were not as firm as I normally prefer.

Bathtub in room was luxurious. large spacious room, plenty of space for luggage, friendly and knowledgable staff, excellent bar and restaurant. Always had breakfast and never failed to get me going in the morning.

Breakfast was disappointing for £22. Limited continental selection at breakfast, possibly poor timing on our part, but we had to wait for a restock on a number of items. Cooked breakfast had issues with portion size and several ingredients were overcooked.

We upgraded to a junior suite which was terrific - lots of room, big comfortable bed, great en-suite bathroom. Hotel has lots of character as it's a lovely conversion of a very old building. Staff were helpful and pleasant.

Only negative from my point of view, being a woman, was the subdued bedroom lighting. Insufficiently bright enough either near the mirror or in the bathroom to apply makeup. But a very minor point that certainly did not spoil what was a lovely stay.

Great staff - all very approachable friendly, and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms - very clean & comfortable. Lovely bathroom products. Plenty of wardrobe space. Tea & coffee making & free bottled water. Lovely breakfasts. Plenty of choice both buffet selection - fresh fruits, cereals, pastries, toast - and hot cooked to order including, full breakfast (also vegetarian) eggs benedict with ham, salmon, avocado on toast, boiled eggs. Bistro also excellent. Very tasty food - fabulous French onion soup- and generous portions. Finally good location for Central attractions as long as you don't mind steps or hills. Quiet location at our time of visit (January)

The atmosphere of being in a period property. The lovely decor which reflected both the French and the Scottish cultures. It had a warm, cosy vibe. Great location, not far from Grassmarket and The Royal Mile and handy for the Festival Theatre. The staff were really welcoming and added to the enjoyment of our stay.

    Leaving?

Gorgeous hotel just a few minutes walk from the Old Town. Our room was really lovely as was the breakfast, really great choices of food and a decent coffee machine!!! We chose to not have our room cleaned for the time we were there and received drinks vouchers in exchange, what a fab idea!!! If you ran out of anything, so tea/coffee etc. you just asked reception, it was no bother, the staff were very lovely and approachable.

Can't think of anything. The only thing I am not sure about is that I upgraded the room. It said that the de-luxe had a free standing bath - our room didn't but to be honest we wouldn't have had time to enjoy it!

Staff were very friendly and welcoming. We upgraded our room to include breakfast which was superb. Location was perfect. This was not the cheapest accommodation in Edinburgh but was perfect for our special stay. Thank you

Everything! The staff were friendly, helpful, available 24/7 and nothing was too much trouble - taxis on Christmas Eve, bed configurations, rooms together, center courtyard requests, menu choices for Christmas Day lunch. They made our holiday so personable and warm.

It was pretty loud at night since it’s an older building. We could hear all the guests that walked by and the cleaning staff in the morning.

I wish I could have been upgraded to a similar room I had before on my last visit, but that been said there was nothing that I didn't like.

I always enjoy staying at the Hotel du Vin. The staff are always friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is a lovely place to come back to after exploring the city. Dining in the restaurant is thoroughly enjoyable as meals are delicious and the atmosphere cozy and relaxing.
