Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomFor the price i expected a bit better in the little things. For example at breakfast is wasn't clear what was available but not on the menu - one day we were offered cereal, the next we weren't. One day we saw jam for toast by the pass but weren't offered any, also fresh orange juice rather than carton would be nice or higher quality carton juice. We were in a top floor room and it was quite warm despite outdoor temperatures being low 20C with no option other than opening windows and letting moths in.
Looks nicely and recently refurbished. Very clean and lovely room decor with comfortable bed/cushions. Good breakfast options. Great central location however with that comes high street noise as the windows are single glazed sash, shame they weren't upgrade as part of refurbishment.

BelgiumWe received a room on the 2nd floor that was cosy but smaller (and under the roof) than the ones on the pictures for the same rate. There is no elevator, so a lot of steps up and down, certainly with luggage. Isolation of windows in this room was not good. We were there in a quiet period, so no noice in the evening, could be different in the summer however.
Stylish decorated and very comfortable hotel, with bar and restaurant, in the centre of Whitstable. Breakfest is impeccable. Very friendly service. Availability of (paying) short or long term parking nearby. Good bus connection to Canterbury.

United KingdomHad a dinner at the dining area, a bit disappointed as food wasn’t that great for the prices but it didn’t ruin our stay whatsoever.
Stayed with my partner at the Duke in April, the location is brilliant! There’s a parking 2 minutes away which was handy. All the restaurants/bars/beach just a few minutes walk. Our double room was beautiful and spacious with a lot of light. We also had a breakfast in the morning which was absolutely delicious! Full English was 5/5. Definitely recommend staying here.

United KingdomStairs are quite steep and we were on second floor. Bit of a haul up and down with heavy cases at our age but offer to help was made by staff..
Well situated in the heart of Whitstable. Room and bathroom was excellent and everything needed was in the room.

LuxembourgI appreciate that the building is old, but single glazed windows in 2024 is a shame as we could hear clearly the noise from the street.
Location is pretty central and very close from the beach. The amenities were very good (tea, coffee, complimentary water and local beers), and the decoration of the room is very stylish, room was big and bed was very comfy. Breakfast was very good and freshly prepared.

United KingdomThere is no parking at the pub and parking in the town is quite expensive. There is however a Charity Car Park a bit further up the High Street at Whitstable Junior School from 9am-5pm (10am on Sundays) on weekends and during school holidays. Not only is this much cheaper (they ask for a donation), but it provides valuable income for both the school and the various charities that take it in turns to run the car park. Overnight parking is available in council run carparks; the cheapest ones are Band 3 and the nearest of these is on Shaftsbury Road.
The pub is located right in the middle of the town, which was ideal for access to shops. restaurants, the harbour and beach. The room was delightful: nicely decorated/furnished, very comfortable, well thought out, clean and in good condition. Very good shower and a nice bright bathroom. The complimentary bottles or water and local beer were a nice touch and much appreciated. There was a good choice of cooked breakfasts and the ones we chose were excellent (perfect poached eggs!), served with nice coffee and juice. A very limited selection of cereal was also available on request. Overall, we really enjoyed our brief stay and would happily recommend!

Czech RepublicThe cleanliness of the dining area on our visit didn't quite meet the high standards set by the rest of the facilities, though the breakfast was very enjoyable and of good quality.

Great location right in the centre of Whitstable, a short walk from the train station. Really lovely rooms, recently refurbished and a lot of attention to detail such as well thought out lights and bedside usb connections, local beers left in room, coffee machine. The pub itself is lovely and although we didn't have dinner there the menu looked great and our breakfast in the morning was delicious and a fab selection. Would definitely stay here again. The pub was very busy but all staff friendly and helpful

United KingdomA little noisy from street in morning and no parking but car park very close by. Understand they couldn’t have a hotel car park.
The interior design. The size of the room and the separation of the bathroom from the bedroom. Nespresso machine, tea-pigs, biscuits and even free local beer. Bathrobes and comfortable bed. Great location and breakfast included in the price. Would highly recommend.

United KingdomWe stayed in the Emeline room, beautifully decorated and very bright, overlooking the high street and pub courtyard - however noise was not an issue at all. The room is cosy and comfortable, great bed. Good shower too. Nice touches like a usb port in the bedside table socket, nice selection of teas and complementary local beer bottles. Digital TV with access to Netflix etc. Yummy breakfast and kind and helpful staff. Location as central as it gets. Thank you!

United KingdomNothing!
We understand that the hotel has undergone a recent renovation which was clearly done with style and comfort in mind. The building itself is shown off in all its mid Victorian glory and the rooms have been designed to match. We were really impressed by the well-equipped room, along with the luxurious furnishings, the beautiful full-length windows, the comfortable bed and the excellent shower. Breakfast was delicious with a good range of choices. The kitchen was flexible enough to adapt to what we wanted. Overall this was a very positive experience.
