The car park was a first come first serve, and was full when we got there. Luckily a car left and we got in. I would like the certainty of being able to book a space.

The room on the 5th floor was very comfortable with a exclent view over Plymouth. The lounge bar had good leather sofas, chairs and the bar service was friendly. We decided to have breakfast, though close to closing time at 10.30am, but we were welcomed, and the cooked breakfast met expectations.

Should have a red carpet at the entrance to the hotel. They should make more if its history.

This is a grand old lady of a hotel. Built around 1860 to cater for very well off travellers going from Plymouth to the US. The history is fascinating with I K Brunel having a hand in building the infrastructure (railway and port). In 1914 Earnest Shackleton stayed here the night before he boarded Endurance to start his Expedition to Antarctica. Its a great hotel, a *** star hotel but all the same a grand hotel. At £50 for a single room, where the ceiling was as high as the floor plan, you couldn't complain. The good news is that the area is going through the process of being redeveloped so hopefully it has a secure good future.

Although I'm happy that the prices are so reasonable, this could be an amazing hotel and much more could be made of its Victorian charm. For example, I had a 70s style phone in my room - if you're going to do 'old school' why not a proper early 20th century phone to fit with the rest of the room. However, please don't do a Boringdon and become incredibly expensive!

Lovely, bubbly staff, very grand building and nice clean room. I had a twin room and it had what looked like Victorian lamps by the beds which I loved. I also noticed some information in the room about the hotel's history and local places to go which is fab.

Bar staff said no evening food but reception staff said there would be. Bloke behind bar a little unhelpful. Bar price high. Lack of healthy choices for breakfast, would expect more for the cost.

Lovely building reception staff friendly. Great room and location idea for the Pavillions.

Lift rather small. Lack of choice in the bar. Not hotel's fault but a lot of noise from the Pavilion from the packing up.

Location, opposite Plymouth Pavilions and close to town. Old fashioned feel with impressive staircase. Room was large and light. Friendly and helpful staff.

Was unhappy over the carpark situation. I ended up having to pay £16 for parking my car during my stay as there was no spaces in the tiny carpark. I was not informed about this prior to my stay either.

The room was lovely and a good size.

Car parking at the hotel almost impossible. Street parking expensive for 24 hours and multi storey parking too far away for comfort. Hotel well overdue for redecoration.

Room was clean and tidy. Evening meal and breakfast was excellent and well knowledgeable about coeliac dietary needs. Staff in restaurant especially helpful but all staff friendly.

The site has a small limited car park so getting a space is a matter of chance. The parking on the road is expensive at £2.60 per hour daytime but £2.60 for night time parking.

A grand old hotel with great communal areas bar and restaurant. Rooms comfortable and clean, my room had a great bathroom with both bath and shower. The hotel is nicely situated for the town centre, the Pavilion’s and the Plymouth Hoe.

Some areas of hotel were very dated and tatty. Our double bed was the creakiest Ive ever slept in.

Breakfast was ok-no fresh fruit left by 9.30am, no Earl Grey tea, a couple of croissant. Cooked b’fast was fine.
