Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe had just completed a road trip through Spain and France and decided to stay over in Plymouth to avoid having to drive home in the dark. The hotel is about a 4 minute drive from the ferry port and a 15-minute walk to the shops. We have stayed in this hotel before and liked the history and atmosphere. The bed was very comfortable and quiet, considering the position of the hotel to amenities. There is a bar and restaurant and parking to the rear of the hotel.

United KingdomChecked in at around 9pmish Monday night & me & my partner was greeted by a young lad who gave us a chilling look. Turned to his colleague behind the desk & said 'you can deal with them' and literally stormed off without saying anything to us. Obviously he hates his job and would rather be anywhere else. Thankfully the lady behind the desk was lovely and made us feel welcome.
Clean, comfortable and a great power shower!

Hong KongFootsteps sound from upstairs. Loud noise of slam door. Seems like coming from the door to the outside car park at the rear of the hotel.
The hotel is in the city centre of walking distance to Armada Way and the Hoe. The room is of traditional style with sitting area. The bed and the blanket are very comfortable. The shower, hot water and heat are also of good standard. Towels are clean and supple. With lift for our luggage. Our stay had been cosy and we felt warmth..

United KingdomWe didn’t like having to fetch our own cups of tea or coffee at breakfast time. Pots of tea and coffee would be much better brought to the table.
The building is a classic and interesting. Well apportioned and clean.

United KingdomThe car park was a first come first serve, and was full when we got there. Luckily a car left and we got in. I would like the certainty of being able to book a space.
The room on the 5th floor was very comfortable with a exclent view over Plymouth. The lounge bar had good leather sofas, chairs and the bar service was friendly. We decided to have breakfast, though close to closing time at 10.30am, but we were welcomed, and the cooked breakfast met expectations.

United KingdomShould have a red carpet at the entrance to the hotel. They should make more if its history.
This is a grand old lady of a hotel. Built around 1860 to cater for very well off travellers going from Plymouth to the US. The history is fascinating with I K Brunel having a hand in building the infrastructure (railway and port). In 1914 Earnest Shackleton stayed here the night before he boarded Endurance to start his Expedition to Antarctica. Its a great hotel, a *** star hotel but all the same a grand hotel. At £50 for a single room, where the ceiling was as high as the floor plan, you couldn't complain. The good news is that the area is going through the process of being redeveloped so hopefully it has a secure good future.

United KingdomAlthough I'm happy that the prices are so reasonable, this could be an amazing hotel and much more could be made of its Victorian charm. For example, I had a 70s style phone in my room - if you're going to do 'old school' why not a proper early 20th century phone to fit with the rest of the room. However, please don't do a Boringdon and become incredibly expensive!
Lovely, bubbly staff, very grand building and nice clean room. I had a twin room and it had what looked like Victorian lamps by the beds which I loved. I also noticed some information in the room about the hotel's history and local places to go which is fab.
