How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

We liked everything!
The apartments were beautifully decorated and located in the midst of everything. We walked everywhere we needed to go - shopping, eating, and sightseeing!

The breakfast agreement with a restaurant was not that convenient. A bit expensive even having the discoount. We only used it once.

The window didn’t open and the extractor fan in the bathroom did not work, however an hour or so before check-out the extractor fan randomly turned on as well as the one in the room. Not sure if the fans turn off at a certain time since we checked in after 8PM
The location was convenient, close to restaurants, cafes and shops! Self check in was easy to follow and the room was beautiful~

Only issue was the WiFi Magic got it to work in reception but despite rebooting the router it wouldn’t connect in the room. Apparently there had been some work done on it in the street recently. Sure it will be sorted by now.
Excellent spacious bright apartment. A room was ready when we arrived at 11.45 so we were allocated that one which was great because we wanted to get changed. Good kitchen facilities, beds comfortable as was the bed settee. All cleaned to a high standard and plenty of towels. Really good location. One of the managers Magic was especially helpful and went above and beyond to make our stay great. He discovered we were there for a celebration and offered to take a group photo for us and open our champagne. Sinem, the other manager was helpful getting our breakfast organised at their sister cafe ( which again was really good) Being able to leave our bags at reception was a massive help.

We were on the top floor which was a very steep climb and would be tricky with a large suitcase. Not a complaint but It would be useful to know this when booking so guests could decide if it would be suitable for them. The bathroom had a particular city drain smell, certainly nothing to do with the bathroom itself but requires better extraction process.
Location is excellent for exploring all Edinburgh has to offer. So many bars and restaurants within easy reach. Reception staff very friendly, polite and efficient. Immaculately clean. Room light and airy. Would return.

Great central location, walking distance to most things and a bus ride away from the airport. The place was spotless and clean and very comfortable. Just wish we stayed longer

When trying to log into the wifi the instructions were very poor, our apartment didn’t show up in the list of options so we took a punt password worked but strength was appalling kept dropping out so don’t know if it was shared amongst a few apartments. Under room details it is listed that the kitchen has a washing machine but there is no washing machine in the kitchen, on ringing the telephone number for guest services we were told there is a laundry in the basement we were welcome to use. The laundry was up and down flights of stairs and no instructions for how to use, we figured the washing machine out but was not able to get the dryer hot. I booked this apartment as we had a couple of loads of washing to do we were not happy. On arrival we were given an external door code and our room code, we were told that when the building didn’t have a staff member on site the external door would be locked for security purposes which was good as there are a few bars around the area but our last night the external door was not locked you could just walk in.
The location was very good with great eating options all around especially Rose Street. The lounge was comfortable. There was plenty of towels and the place was pretty clean.

There should be locks in bathroom. As we had too much luggage it was a hassle carrying it to the 3rd floor .
Everything was wonderful location perfect . Clean . Staff very helpful . Beds comfortable . Nice place .

The room was on the third floor, and there were no elevators in the building to help with the baggage.
The apartment is located within walking distance of Edinburgh Castle and the Old Town.

The location was great! The staff member Magic that dealt with me and my friends gave great service and was very friendly and welcoming. The size of the flats I booked for me and my friends were good and came with everything we needed. The garden area was also great to hang out in.

Having to carry heavy luggage up & down a spiral staircase, as there’s no lift.
The location was amazing and the apartment was massive, clean and comfortable with all the amenities you could possibly need. The staff were so friendly and accommodating.
