How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Unfortunately the walls are very thin, I could clearly understand what guests in the other room are saying. Therefore I couldn´t sleep well.
Good location, very close to main street with lot of reastaurants and shops. Overall clean and comfortable. Great value for money. Self check in, fast answers in the chat.

The rooms were very noisy , we could hear people next door. The bed sheets were too small and kept falling off and the place was overheated.
It was close to rhe shops and transport. The room was very well equped with kettle , and coffee

Location was quite a walk 20mns from city centre. Rooms were originaly large but had been subdovided with plasterboard walls. The dividing walls were thin so sound travelled easily, needed to listen to neighbouring TV and snoring. Bathrooms were shared and not Ensuite but for the price that would be expected.
Clean, well equipped and cheap. Rooms even had kettle coffee etc. Good bathrooms with powerful showers.

Lot of disturbances from other rooms and we can hear everything what others are speaking next room and room was very cold even after heaters on. Couldn’t find kitchen in the property to get some water
Property is value for money, cleanliness and near to city centre and transportation was good

Wifi was weak from my place and the wall is thin, you can easily hear other people next door
The room I stay was spacious, nice, and clean. There are amenities as described. Toilet was clean as well. The place was also easily reachable by bus from the main train station (around 15 mins). There were plenty of restaurants and supermarkets nearby. Overall it’s nice place to stay and worth the money for budget travelers to Edinburgh

A mice in the room ! it run under the closet. Can you imagine how i slept that night. Very cold in the room. Noise from the other rooms. The staff was chasing me to ask what room I'm in, thinking that i was making all that noise. They nothing to stop it

Unfortunately the mattress wasn’t the greatest quality which resulted in us waking up early. However that didn’t affect our stay as we managed to see more of the city as we hoped.
Great location and very easy to get to by tram. Spacious room and included kettle and tv. Very easy check in through key box - this helped a lot as we didn’t arrive to hotel till late. Great communication through the booking.com website.

In my search a B&B in Edinburgh, at a reasonable price, produced this property. So it came as a surprise and disappointment that it was not in fact a B&B, but a HMO type place, with shared toilet and shower on landing, not ensuite, and obviously no breakfast.
Bed was very comfortable and so had a very good sleep. Also, though there is no dedicated car park, the owner of property allowed me to park my car in a loading Bay Area behind building.

We did not find utensils but maybe there were some, so it would be nice to have spoons or something like that.
Great and clean property, high ceiling, there was a heater because it was a bit cold outside, coffee and tea in the room

Our radiators have been turned off at one point and it got very cold, and no one was returning our calls for a day. thankfully once we reached out through booking, it was solved also WiFi had very poor reception

On arrival our host had mixed up our room with someone else and awkwardly knocked on a man’s door (who had already checked in) to change rooms. This was super uncomfortable and unprofessional. The stay was okay, bathroom facilities were better than the state of the room, and proximity to city centre was great - I don’t think I would stay there again.

The only downside was the lack of staff support. Not a big thing but we bought food but had no access to cutlery, (pot noodle, no fork.. gutted.!!). If i had of known i'd have taken my own..
Good value, okay location, very easily accessible. We had a very pleasant stay.
