How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The shower, while economic, came out at such a drizzle that it barely rinsed the shampoo out of my head. I can't remember anywhere in Scotland (not even in the cities) where we've paid more than £6 for a pint of lager- it actually led us to wonder whether there were tourist prices and local prices.
Cosy and comfortable with a delicious breakfast.

Constructive criticism - there was an air freshener in our room and one in the bathroom. The synthetic smell was so overpowering it made my eyes sting. We had to hide them in a drawer for the duration of our stay. Suggest putting a shelf in the bathroom for toiletries and a chair in front of the mirror in the bedroom.
First of all, the staff were lovely and friendly. Our room was huge and well appointed. Very comfortable bed. Parking in front of the hotel. Extensive menu and good food.

Hotel is fine for short stay. Little tired. Corridors have a musty smell.
Ideal for a place to sleep. Breakfast was traditional with no frills but well cooked and presented. Staff were courteous throughout. Breakfast waitress was worthy of a particular mention; friendly and attentive.

The hotel itself could use a bit of refurbishment - hopefully without losing it's "back in time" charm.
For those who enjoy old fashioned hotels - a bit like taking a step back in time - this hotel is for you. We had a big family room - spacious with a very comfortable bed and bathroom with a bathtub - joy! Lovely hot water, warm and cosy with every amenity - even our dog was allowed to stay. The breakfast was first class as was our very friendly host who couldn't do enough for us.

The breakfast was lovely and served by the owner who was nice to talk too. Our room was very clean. The hotel staff were very polite and helpful. We attended awake after our stay and the staff were wonderful. The hotel is very quirky 😊

The wall between our two rooms was a bit thin which was entertaining for those of us with good hearing.
The location was perfect for us and there was plenty of free parking nearby. We really enjoyed the evening meal.

Room was very warm, but this would have been a plus for others.
Breakfast was excellent. Very dog friendly. Staff friendly and efficient. Location in centre of Biggar parking outside of hotel, very convenient.

One or two places could perhaps have benefited from a lick of paint, but much was pleasantly atmospheric, and I wouldn't really want the proprietors to change anything. Oh, the bedroom walls were a little thin and I could hear some late-night revellers, but that can happen anywhere.
I had a brief but lovely stay. While the room was not large, it did everything I needed it to. The staff I spoke to were all charming. Dinner was terrific, as was breakfast, and the bar sold a nice pint of real ale. I needed to get to Glasgow on the following day: while Biggar itself is out in the countryside, reaching Glasgow was an easy journey, though admittedly, I am talking about a Sunday morning!

It was quite noisy in the room. We could hear the guests in the rooms on either side of our room using the shower in the morning.
The food was good and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and accomodating.
