How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The radiator/towel rail was too close to the toilet. Maybe moving it would prevent people burning themselves.

great location handy for the bus and rail station if you play golf ideal, great host nothing to much trouble we used this as a base to get to the racing at Ayr ideal

Nothing not to like.
Nice friendly welcome. Cottage perfect for our needs. Clean and well maintained, everything we required for our stay. Location, well situated for access to beach and town centre with plenty of local restaurants and bars. Close to travel links for surrounding areas, bus, train and roads. Onsite parking was a bonus.

Decor bit tired but location location makes up for that.

Kitchens were very well provisioned, please just add some tongs to help with the breakfast fry up!
Our family (4 adults +1dog) stayed in two of the units over 3 nights recently to attend a local wedding. This was a really great find, excellent accomodation, hosts and location. We also lucked in with fantastic weather. Our hosts were on site in the main house, and were very helpful with any requests or questions on local things. Location is 200 yards to Prestwick beach and a short walk to Prestwick Town centre which has very good selection of restaurants and shops etc. We particularly liked The Lido and The Taj Tandoori. Lots of golf courses in the area too. Apartments are tucked away at the rear of the main house, a very good standard, nice and quiet and plenty of space for us all. Off-street parking, and we were able to park at the end of the drive in sight of our appartments. Great local beach at Prestwick. Nearby Turnberry beach is superb.

No problems.
The cottage was lovely and comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. Being located at the back of the main house made it lovely and peaceful and with its location so close to the shore the dog got plenty of walks every day! The host Neil was very friendly and accommodating. We hope to return later in the year.

Hosts made us feel very welcome on arrival and throughout our stay. Cottage was well equipped and cosy, everything we needed. Close to all amenities and just a short walk to the seafront. Would definitely recommend. Thanks for everything :)

From the minute we arrived Host made us very welcome. Well equipped chalet, everything you need. Beds comfy, heating was on for our arrival, restful night sleep. Wide range of independent shops/eateries on High Street. Beach less than 5 mins walk. Sad to be leaving, 100% recommend. Couple with a very happy retriever.

Friendly staff and spotlessly clean with comfy beds and good bathroom facilities. Nice walk down to the seaside and handy to Prestwick and Ayr. Perfect base for exploring the area.
