The whole hotel is tired and needing a major refurb. Not up to GW standards but with the same rack rate as much better hotels

The whole hotel was very hot….this was on a day when it was pretty chilly outside. Our room was too warm and there was no way of controlling it. Stairs up to the bathroom needed care to negotiate in the middle of the night.

We had a lovely big, quiet room with a recently refurbished bathroom. Huge, comfortable bed. Plenty of tea and coffee provided. Mostly friendly staff. No problem storing our bicycles. Good location near to centre of town. Breakfast was fine though some fresh fruit would have been welcome. Fans provided in the room - which we needed overnight even though it was April as the room was very warm.

being on second floor when requested first floor - due to health. small double bed low water pressure on over bath shower very tired decor in bathroom had a function on but wasn’t mentioned in booking details we would have appreciated a reply to the booking request if the room on first floor couldn’t have been accommodated we always take a photo of the room or the food as a memory but for the first time we didn’t as felt it didn’t meet the usual expectations- really sorry 😞

convenient for town we love this property and have stayed on many occasions even knowing which rooms suit our needs (my husband is 6’5 so we try to avoid low ceilings and look at rooms that aren’t small we love the staff who attentive and try to accommodate breakfast was great

The rooms were very dated, I did expect something a little more modern but perhaps that's because I'm used to premier inns. My room was a little dusty in areas but overall clean. I would have preferred a way to further secure the room door at night, perhaps a chain or additional lock as you just close the door and hope it's locked from the outside.

Great location. The staff in the pub/restaurant were very pleasant and helpful . Food was nice.

The radiator in the room did not work but the one in the bathroom worked ok. We only realised this when we got home from our night out so the room was quite cold. We decided not to call Reception as it was around midnight and just wanted to get to bed. We mentioned it to the Receptionist the following morning so they could do something before the next guest arrived. However the Receptionist was quite brusque and told us we should have called them the night before. I had already explained that it we weren't "complaining" but just letting them know.

Room was good, bed was comfortable and bathroom was really nice. It was all very clean and there was plenty of room. Tea and coffee with biscuits was also provided.

The hotel is in need of redecorating and general update. Rooms are clean and have everything you need just looking tired and old fashioned. We had the two family rooms which were right at the top of the hotel with lots of stairs to go up. The bathroom didn’t smell very nice but we paid a very reasonable rate and it did the job for a couple of nights.

We didn’t have breakfast at the hotel. Location was very good very central to the shops, restaurants and market.

Bed was very hard. A bathtub, but no option to use taps, just the shower over, which was difficult to get an even temperature on, but honestly that's the risk you take with any hotel - it's not going to be your home, so things aren't going to be exactly as you'd like them. It would have been helpful if there'd been an indication either on Booking.com, or at check-in, that you had to reserve a table in the restaurant in the evenings (ended up getting dinner from Asda, which had a good selection at great prices! Lol)

Much too hot. We all had disturbed nights because of the heat. The radiators were off but the pipework was very hot and warmed the rooms. The hotel could do with a refresh.

Bedroom needs updating although has everything you need. Room extremely warm. Something banging all night outside which kept us awake on and off.

Rooms were very hot and radiators could not be turned down. Hotel sorted this for us but one room was still very hot and we had to leave windows open, and use fans.

The only problem with our stay was the bathroom, although the bathroom was clean the shower was not fit for use. The showerhead could not be put upright making it difficult to have a shower satisfactorily. For some bizarre reason a box of soap had been placed at the back of the showerhead, also a plastic disposable knife was wedged in the showerhead fitting, no doubt to try and make the showerhead stay upright, however this did not work. We had a 2 night stay, complained about the showerhead but nothing was done. This is our only complaint about the hotel.

The beds were comfortable. The room was clean and plenty of room. Breakfast was good, also the evening meal. Gillian, waitress at breakfast was friendly and helpful. The receptionist, Anne was also friendly and helpful.
