I think the bar area needs to be updated and made more atmospheric - table lamps, new armchairs, soft music. the same applies to the library/ lounge - the armchairs/ seating could be updated.

Location was ideal. The breakfast service was excellent - although a few more things on the hot menu would be helpful - such as smoked salmon, black pudding - but the food was excellent quality. The service of the staff before arrival via email and during the stay was excellent.

I'd be searching for things to dislike - but if pushed I'd say the peppercorn sauce had a little too much brandy in it :)

I liked that it was an independent hotel rather than a big chain - more individual. The hotel was located just outside of the main town, easily walkable and in a quiet location with good access to pathways and the river. Most exceptionally though were the team: friendly, attentive (without being overly attentive) and the proprietor actively engaging with guests, sharing her story about the hotel.

All excellent - I would have to make something up!

Lovely room, friendly staff and beautiful surroundings. The hotel has a lovely history which the staff are proud of and willing to share. While we were there there was a small wedding and we overheard the guests at breakfast saying how amazing the staff were and nothing was too much trouble for them.

Everything was good

Lovely location and the building itself is super, clearly a lifetimes work for the family who run it. Rooms comfortable, good value for money and above all the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Thank you to Jan and the team, we had a great stay.

Bedroom was hot - duvet too thick for the summer

breakfast was good. Dinner lovely, BUT portions far too large. strange to haver chips AND potatoes. Thus no pudding. Suggest you lose the 'fine dining' description if portions are massive? gardens and location etc v good.

Toilets in function area would have benefited from regular checks for cleanliness and supplies of toilet roll etc. Only 2 cubicles in ladies and 2+urinal in gents meant they were well used during the evening. At the end of the evening, they were not pleasant! Bar service was also very slow at the busiest times - more staff needed or a second bar area for functions would help.

The bedroom was very small with insufficient drawer space - quite a drawback. The hotel has undoubted potential, but in need of a refurbishment. The bin at the 'smoking shelter' was overflowing and hadn't been emptied during our stay

The location was outstanding and the friendliness and helpfulness of staff is the hallmark of this hotel. The 'cooked to order 'breakfast was first class and beautifully presented.

The room we had been given was cramped with dated and used fittings , the tea and coffee was sparse with just minimal contents also a pack of one biscuit a joke.

One of the rooms we were given had a small balcony with chairs but it hadn't been cleaned after the winter so we couldn't sit and admire the gardens. The same room also looked in need of redecoration. The other room we'd booked was fine.

A quaint traditional hotel. The building has had numerous extensions over the years adding to its charm. A 10 minute walk from the centre of Usk. The staff are very friendly.

The location was ideal and while modern there was plenty character to the property which is a great credit and unique quality. The surroundings were exquisite and very close to town, and a small park which straddles the River Usk just being across the street.
