Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThere is nothing in particular that I did not like, however, it is good to note that Gleneagles Townhouse does not have vast spa facilities (swimming pool, steam room etc.) - although the spa facilities that they do have are spectacular!
Absolutely stunning; the hotel was immaculate and the rooms were incredibly cosy. Our stay was made more pleasant with the friendliness of the staff. Gleneagles Townhouse is located conveniently; we got into Edinburgh Waverley station and walked to the hotel, which took under 5 minutes. We were greeted at the door by a cordial young man - he was attentive and recommended lovely places for my family and I to visit. From the lobby we had a spectacular view of their restaurant, The Spence, and we booked in for dinner immediately; we were sat in an exquisite hall with palatial original detailing, which was breathtaking. Not only were we spoilt with a lovely breakfast and dinner, but we also had access to their rooftop bar, The Lamplighters. Upon arrival, we were surprised with complimentary nibbles (olives, bruschetta, parma ham etc.). The cocktails were named after Robert Louise Stevenson's characters and novels, and as a literature enthusiast, I was impressed. The Lamplighters is also a great place to retreat to for tea or coffee, after having had dinner at The Spence, to finish off the evening - thus, it is not only for those who'd like to have alcoholic beverages. Additionally, you will most certainly appreciate the views from the rooftop of the spectacular Edinburgh skyline as the sun sets. Overall, this is a place that I would absolutely recommend if you are after a luxurious stay, as well as a central location. You are only a short walk away from Edinburgh's most famous attractions, such as Edinburgh Castle, Palace of Hollyroodhouse, St Giles' Cathedral, National Museum etc. Shopping destinations, like George Street, Princes Street, Royal Mile and Multrees Walk are also on your doorstep. I must also add - that was one of the most comfortable beds I have slept in!!!

United KingdomThere is absolutely nothing not to like about The Town house what so ever. Fantastic addition to the city and beautiful addition to Gleneagles itself.
We decided to treat ourselves following our wedding at the City Chambers and we were both so pleased that we did. What a fabulous hotel. Staff were lovely and friendly and gave us a lovely little gift as it was our wedding. Having stayed in Gleneagles a couple of years ago we were blown away and the townhouse doesn't disappoint either. Rooftop bar was a fantastic location for a few post dinner cocktails and once again the staff were superb. Breakfast was included and was fantastic and for what its worth was we felt reasonably priced per item even if it hadn't been included in the price.

IsraelThe lamplighters lounge wasn’t great and there really was no lounge in which to sit and read and have a drink.
The hotel is quite lovely, in a former and very grand bank. Breakfast is served in a glorious atrium. Lovely gym. We changed rooms. First room was somewhat lackluster so we asked to change. Second room was gorgeous! Lovely views to St. Andrew’s square, lovely claw foot tub. Service across the board was perfect— really nice people work here.

United KingdomI really can’t think of anything!
Perfect location just a few minutes walk from the main train station and close to attractions. Hotel was beautiful and the staff were excellent and couldn’t have done more for us. Despite being on the ground floor the room was extremely quiet and beautifully furnished. Noticed how clean the hotel was everywhere and felt brand new. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful - order anything from the menu and it is included in the room. We didn’t use the spa but it looked so nice and again the staff very friendly. It was an expensive stay but completely worth it.

JapanFirst impressions slightly marred by piped music and smell of fried food when you walk in, given the grandeur of the building - they need to fix the extraction. Also having a fixed percentage ‘service charge’ on the room rate - apparently instead of guests leaving a cash tip - is a bit annoying and presumptuous. Either put the room rate up or allow people to work out their own staff tip.
Great location, incredibly stylish conversion of imposing banking hall into a 5 star hotel and restaurant, very luxurious, great interior design and super friendly staff.

United KingdomIf i was forced to find a negative it has no parking on site. to compensate there is secure parking within a 5 minute walk. Which adds to a negative - too close to the shops.
The Hotel is centrally located, with a very welcoming and happy staff. The building itself is beyond words, matching historic with modern. A must do is the rooftop bar overlooking the square with views across the Forth.

United KingdomThe restaurant food. Even tho the menu is changed is still not to the standard of what the hotel is offering in therms of accommodation.
the hotel rooms are the best, the bar area is just stunning and the staff very professional but the food in the restaurant is a let down a bit to be honest. Anyway I’ll still chose to stay in this hotel. I’m quite often travelling to Edinburg and this hotel have the best rooms and the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in!
