Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNo way is this 3 star. The room was tiny, you couldn’t control the heating and was like a sauna, the windows were unable to be opened, the shower head was black with mould, the toilet could only just fit a human in it but only if you didn’t want to turn around, the carpet was absolutely disgusting, I could go on and on.
The guy on reception was helpful.

United KingdomIt’s very basic but you get what you pay for. The beds are awful you can’t sleep as they are so uncomfortable. The rooms are dark and very small. The rooms smell damp, wallpaper hanging off the walls.
Location is good for St James Park. The bedding was clean.

United KingdomThe mattress was horrendous and we barely slept at all, it was basically springs with a bit of material over them and you found it hard to find a place to lay without having one digging in somewhere. You are on a busy road and we knew that when we booked but we didn't realise just how busy, its hard to keep the room cool without hearing everything with the windows open (we understand this is out of the hotels control). We were booking on the basis of budget being low but other reviews said it is clean and comfortable so we felt let down that the bed was uncomfortable for us as with a decent matress our review would have been different. The place is what you pay for compared to others around it, we werent expeting a luxurious memory foam mattress just something you could actually sleep on.
The staff were friendly and there in the reception if you needed them. There was on site parking at the back of the building for £5 per night which is helpful (just need a little more signage on how to get to it as its down an alley). As on other reviews the building is a bit tatty in places, wallpaper coming off, holes in the walls etc but the place is clean, its a shame as it could be a really lovley place. The location is 20 mins walk from the tyne theatre and other attractions so ideal but i would recommend getting a uber as the walk is downhill/uphill. The night we stayed another guest was smoking in their room (as we understood) and the fire alarm went off 4 times between 4.30am until about 5.15am and the hotel staff were heard dealing with this professionally and calmly.

United Kingdom-I searched for bed and breakfasts on Booking.com but realised breakfast was not supplied after I had booked-not a huge issue. -I made some enquiries both by email and telephone to check car parking was available and was assured there would be no problem whenever we arrived(before or after check in time)No mention of an additional fee ! I declined to pay on arrival -The hotel insisted on a deposit for the door key card-unusual in my experience -The room was exceptionally hot and being at front of hotel even with window almost closed traffic and sirens were noisy most of the night -The hotel and rooms(my son also stayed in a single room) were pretty run down with minimal facilities but generally clean
I slept well although my wife did not Only a 20min walk down hill to city centre and a 5min/£5 Uber ride back Staff on 24h desk were generally helpful and there were none of the nightmare experiences that we had read about in other reviews

United KingdomThe paint was peeling quite badly in the room and there was no kettle although I'm sure it would have been provided if we needed it.
A last minute booking to save the taxi home. It's better than I was expecting for the price and was available so worked out brilliantly. Very comfy beds, friendly and helpful staff despite the late hour! Very hot shower and fresh towels and cleaning products.

AustraliaCame in the middle of a heatwave to find the wall heater cranked up ,but window open. When room was cleaned ,cleaner should of turned off heating as it is not required in 32-35 degrees heat, it took ages for the room to get cooler. Tired décor with damaged fittings, broken slates on blinds ,hole in wall above toilet, broken plug chain, toilet roll holder half hanging off wall. (have photo's ) Signs that say there IS a lift on the ground floor but ,it doesn't exist and has been removed. Location is almost 1 hour on foot to town as we had parked car which was securely locked. so if you need food (dinner in our case) it is a mad rush to get there before 9pm closing on a Monday. Key deposit is required in Cash ,will not take a swipe on card , or card deposit ,which meant driving around to find an ATM (not in plain site at this end of town) and if your an overseas traveler fees for withdrawing a measly small amount.
Car Park offered for guests is secure, Check out.
