leisure facilities not up to scratch on first visit on thursday but after complaining to duty manager, was sorted for fridays visit. sauna and steam room not working.

The lovely room near the bar with comfy settees and a cabinet of old sports memorabilia (perfect for a chill out with a nightcap) is no longer accessible for guests. Looked like it’s been turned into a meeting room.

The spa

The building was beautiful, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming making it feel reminiscent to an old tv sitcom, where staying in a hotel was like becoming part of the family. Really enjoyed the food, we went for the afternoon tea which was amazing, followed by an evening meal in the restaurant, both were high quality. Breakfast was geeat too, lots of options and done yo a high standard. Nothing waa too much trouble hor the staff who were always on hand to help. Great location for walkkng and visiting Grange over Sands or nearby Cartmel. The only thing that dissapointed was the spa, it really shouldn't be advertised as a spa it was an awkward shaped pool where you couldn't do lengths, a cold tiny steam room, only room for 2 people and only rose to a tepid temperature if that, and the steam room didn't work initially, and only started to once a poor guest poured numerous cups of water on it, having to leave and re-enter repeatedly to do so, so not very relaxing. It's also a tired and shabby area of the hotel, not on the same scale as other parts. I think they'd be better not to advertise it at all, that way you're not going to get dissapointed guests coming for the spa, that isn't a spa. Other than that, I'd highly recommend staying for all other aspects of this hotel, we thoroughly enjoyed it and will be returning again.

I did not like the smell in the room and mould in the bathroom, hot buffet for breakfast, noise in the morning, very small tv too high on the wall, lack of fridge in the room, no heating in the bathroom

Surroundings, especially park with the fountaine, Amazing royal decor of the hotel and rooms, Amazing four poster beds and antique furniture, gold mirrors and elegant very decorative curtains in the rooms; baths and showers in the same bathroom; fans, comfy armchairs, and beds etc. Lovely staff who cared about me and helped me to bring my huge luggage from the gate where I dropped it as was too heavy. They made me fantastic coffee and boiled eggs for breakfast. They did not rush me up with breakfast or checking out; Swimming pool, beauty treatments,

The menu was used for 2 nights and then changed. The service on certain sittings was not great. It depended on who was on duty. One night we waited 2 hours to finish dinner. One breakfast, the service was not good. There were marks on the carpet in the bedroom. The bathroom door had obviously got wet and the wood rotted and had only been painted over.

The food was lovely. The staff were very helpful. Public areas were beautifully decorated.

The spa overall needs some attention and I would have expected the floor around the pool to be cleaner. The plumbing in the room seemed dated.

The hotel seems to frequently change it's staff which is a shame, when we first went we had a massage in the spa but the last three times they don't have anybody there anymore. Also while the food is lovely, it takes ages to come out, we went for dinner at 7:30 and finished at 9:45 which is extremely long when you think the meal can be eaten in 5 minutes as it's not big, also the same food on both nights but cooked differently by two chefs, needs to be consistent. Also the taps in the room were stiff to turn and hot water came out the cold first?! And cold out the hot before it went scourging.

The hotel is lovely and the rooms are big, the staff are very friendly and the bar man Keiran (I think it's spelt that way) has a great character and reason we like going back (4 times now) . Also Jason in the dinning room is always friendly and polite. The food is lovely.
