We had a fantastic stay at No 1 guesthouse for my 50th birthday , the location is excellent, the staff were all so lovely and friendly especially the lady in charge of breakfast . The room was so full of character and comfortable. Loved the pantry , such a lovely idea . Highly recommend this hotel

A minor gripe is that a mirror in the bathroom (other than that built into the narrow door panels) would have been ideal. The shaving mirror is there but too low and small to use for anything other than shaving.

It is one of the best hotels I have stayed in - every imaginable little touch has been thought of, and the staff are clearly dedicated to your comfort and enjoyment. The food (even though I only had breakfast) was superb. It is refreshing to stay in a proper boutique, non-formulaic hotel with genuine interest at every turn. The pantry is a genius idea too.

While we enjoyed the facilities and the decor, including records and record players and lovely music in our room, the bedframe required us to climb over each other to get into bed.

The decor was very interesting and different. There was a terrific gathering room with games and even live music. Breakfast was included and in the main restaurant which has an excellent reputation in the area. There was parking on site, but all the attractions of York were a short walk away. Then there was surprise pantry free for guests.

A late check out of one hour was going to cost us £50, which seems really too much!

Lovely property, gorgeous rooms! The bar is lovely, as is the lounge. Food at the Pearly cow was lovely, the chips were possibly the best we've ever had. The pantry with all its snacks are a wonderful addition!

We stayed here on our mini moon! The staff were amazing so friendly and hospitable. The hotel had the most amazing facilities including a complimentary pantry, record players in the rooms and the comfiest bed in the world. Every single staff member we came into contact with was amazing! And having parking in York centre was a bonus!

You can hear street noise and other rooms noise from your room. It didn’t stop us from sleeping or relaxing. But it’s the only thing it missed to be perfect.

Lovely place. Clean, neat and very cute. The staff is polite and ready to help/assist. Shout out to the pantry with sweats and treats. I would definitely go back.

The room was very small with limited space for opening our luggage. However it’s a very old building and this is quite the norm. A ramp up the front steps would be ideal for luggage.

The staff and service were wonderful! The room was comfortable and had classy decor. The bathrobe and slippers were a welcomed touch with the wide plank wood floors in the room. The bathroom was lovely and clean. Both the room and bathroom had great lighting. I loved the free pantry of snack food. We felt like kids in a candy shop with our little treat bags!
