Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomDisorganised evening meal and certainty whether we would located in the restaurant or brasserie for dinner. Meals were excellent but lack of allergy knowledge by the serving staff was lacking. Some reception staff were very friendly and welcoming, but others not.
Had the family sea view room which although was a little dated was big, spacious and clean

United KingdomThe room had a emergency exit outside the window so we had a restricted view. Room 306.
We were moved to The Grand as hotel was closed.

United KingdomI deducted marks for the broken pipe outside the window that let the running water pour down so loudly outside the window.. The zero view of a brick wall, The toilet needing cleaning again. No bottled water in the room and had to use bath tap water to make a tea after a long drive there. They should provide at least 2 bottles on arrival. Dirty stained carpet that made my white socks black and whoever was in the room Opposite kept going in and out there room several times through the night .. presumably to go and smoke outside the hotel.
It's a lovely hotel. Love the style and space the hotel provide for there guests.. the little library is snug and cosy .. the comfortable sofas and fire places... It was a nice stay plus in a great area in easy walking distance to torquay Town.

United KingdomRoom decor a teeny bit tired, bathroom silicone needed re doing (bit moldy) and middle of the night fire alarm/evacuation was a bit of a hassle. But I’d definitely book again, I liked the place. It’s charming.
Cool faded glamour (we were in the Grand hotel bc building), lovely staff.

United KingdomThe smart TV installed in our room was great but did not have any ‘smart’ functions due to the WiFi not being connected to the internet. This was not an issue as we could use our own personal hotspot but a note for others staying who may not know how to or be able to do the same.
We booked to stay at Abbey Sands but were moved to The Grand (a nearby sister hotel) with no extra fees or any complications. Fantastic location, very close to the beach and a short walk to town also. Free parking permit was given on (early) arrival. Staff were friendly and helpful. Onsite facilities were easy to access, including before check in. Towels were provided for the swimming pool. Room was clean and tidy, had everything we needed.

United KingdomRestaurant is very expensive for both breakfast and dinner. No special offers or set menus and no dietary allowances . For example £18 for breakfast for diabetic , with no fat free cooking, veg or salad options . Reception correspondence did not answer this direct dietary question when asked and also did not say there was free parking either. Charged £20 then on checking out they told us, due Receptionist error of not entering our car registration, we may get a £60 fine so we'd have to pay it then claim it back through the hotel. Not the way you want to end your stay with a parking fine due to their error!!! Hotel room at back of hotel was noisy with train announcements and very late 1am parry noise. Pool was cold and needs repair to cracked tiles urgently.
Moved from Abbey Sands to The Grand Hotel to a large room, very good value. Beautiful location near the sea, with conservatory offering food. Walkable to main town . Spa available but might need to book.

United KingdomJust 1 thing to mention is the WiFi. If that's important, it's not very strong, constant, or password protected. Also, I had a technical issue with the TV, and 3 staff members tried to solve it. They were all friendly and professional. Although it was never entirely fixed, we found a way to use it in the end.
I was happily upgraded from Abbey Sands to the Grand.so the review is for the Grand.. The building and reception were a delight. It looks well looked after. The room was clean and comfortable. I was impressed after reading some of the negative comments on google.. The location was perfect for me right by the station. Did not really hear the trains even though I was facing the station. Over the road from the beach and a bus stop. 20 minutes walk from the town. Enjoyed reading the papers in the bar with a drink.

United KingdomIn the Grand Hotel, the beds are way too hard. It's probably OK for most people, but it wasn't comfortable for my husband and I. Also we went to breakfast at 7am when breakfast opened and the food was cold its a buffet style service and we did expect to have a hot breakfast so that was very disappointing the next morning we had cereal and toast which was OK. Our evening meal we book separates from our package by the time we received it it was going cold it was hot on the surface and cold underneath as it had been sat under a hot plate so at £73.00ish for a meal it was overall disappointing again .
We didn't stay at the Abbey sands Hotel we were transferred to the Grand hotel . The staff are very nice and friendly the location was amazing the hotel in general was lovely the pool was great I loved my swim .

United KingdomUpper floors a bit tired and in need of TLC. Unable to make the room a suitable temperature (too warm). Mattress very hard even with a mattress topper. Very basic gym (still able to make some sort of work out-just not ideal). Not great you have to walk through the pool with outdoor shoes to get to the gym. No hygiene spray available and no one to ask. Pool is useable and good for small children but does need a good face lift as very tired.
Good location. Lobby and restaurant high quality. Room adequate and kept clean. The reception staff and breakfast staff were lovely and friendly and when asked went out of their way to assist.

United KingdomThe shower cubical is fairly small in bathroom. Large people would have a problem. The bathroom itself is very big size, just not very well designed.
We have been transferred to partner hotel - Grand Hotel, so this is review for it. The standard room we had was very spacious with big bathroom. The décor is fine, although little shabby. The breakfast was buffet style and was good. Little extra is indoor pool and small gym, so if you have time you can spend it there. Overall happy with our visit.
