Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GreeceWe paid 260 euros/night to have an appartment with balcony and the balcony was locked. I called the telephone to ask about the key, and they answer me 2 days later that the door was broken. Two days before my arrival they asked me for security deposit, 550 euros! Today, 10 days after me departure i still wait for the reversal of the deposit.... the sofa in the living room where i slept was dirty and there were also some broken things in the house which was not fixed before our arrival. the check in was also very difficult and 10 hours before my arrival i hadnt received "instructions email."

SwitzerlandCheck-in was a bit adventurous and took more than 30 minutes due to the numerous codes and the need to retrieve a key from a specific location using a code. Upon arriving at the apartment, I discovered that it had no power. The issue took another three hours to resolve, but the service personnel that came by were very competent and friendly, explaining everything to me. A deposit of 500 pounds is required, which will be refunded within 14 days. The living room and kitchen have been recently renovated and are in good condition, but the windows leak and the sliding door to the balcony is stuck, making it unusable. The washing machine is new and detergent was provided. The kitchen, however, is poorly equipped, with only salt, pepper, and tea available. There are no kitchen knives or scrapers and the plastic handles on the cooking utensils are coming off. I had to buy these things myself. The apartment is located on the upper floors, offering a good view of the industry and business of Liverpool. It is quiet for its proximity to the city center, and the neighbors are nice, some of whom are homeowners and also quiet. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from the apartment to Liverpool Lime Street station. The bathroom needs renovation, as the floor covering is coming off and the fixtures are old. The TV is somewhat blurry, but it has an Amazon Firestick and can be used with personal accounts to access certain services. The WiFi is very good. The vacuum cleaner was broken and very dirty. An iron and ironing board are provided, but I had to buy my own toilet paper. The electric heating works well, but the apartment is drafty and it could be difficult to heat if the temperature drops below freezing. During my stay, the temperature was 7 degrees Celsius and the heating worked well.

United KingdomI arranged to pick up the key early and was assured that it was set up. Unfortunately, the key was not available and we ended up waiting an additional 2 hours in the rain. The apartment was dirty; the sofa was completely sunk in that was unable to sit on, broken tiles on bathroom floor with sharp edges, definitely a H&S risk, the bath/shower very dirty and mouldy, no heat in lounge area, squashed insects on louvre blinds, no hot water in the bathroom or kitchen, and to top it off, the balcony door would not close properly and I thought it was going to blow in. I had to stuff the 3" gap with extra pillows and towels. I will attach photos and the video of the gale coming through the balcony door. I am so disappointed and very angry that you expect people to pay money to stay in accommodation that is not fit for purpose....
I can't say that I particularly liked ANY of the whole experience... the layout of the apartment was nice, that's about it.
