Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe took a blanket because I’m a nesh thing, which I was thankful for as we couldn’t find one in the lodge for whilst we sat outside, but there were seat cushions, on a positive there was a wood burner and underfloor heating so you don’t have to worry about being cold!
Perfect for a short stay away for my partner’s birthday. We were made to feel extremely welcome, and my partner felt extra special as our host made a birthday cake to celebrate, absolutely amazing chocolate cake! Parking was ample, a short drive up and down the valley side into Hay with very little traffic. We had a breakfast basket full of goodies ready for us arriving to use while we were there too, and our hosts contacted us ahead of time to discuss dietary preferences.

United KingdomWe visited this little retreat in Hay on Wye for just one night and it became the highlight of our trip. The cabin was amazing, very well thought out and organized, and it had all the amenities we needed. Eating breakfast in the morning while having such an incredible view was an unforgettable experience. Thank you to Barry and Irene for an exceptional experience!

United KingdomThere was nothing we did not like. The access to and from only one side of the bed was a little bit of a challenge in the middle of the night for us at ages of 85 and 74 respectively. We did however found this experience, quite amusing or rather hilarious.
Owners were brilliant and friendly The facilities were spotlessly clean and the location with local views within a short walk away were exceptional. Local access to the historic and attractive book town of Hay on Wye was a bonus.

United KingdomThe perfect base for a weekend in Hay-on-Wye. Nothing was too much trouble- the host had even gone to the trouble of baking vegan Welsh cakes for me! The weather was quite up and down the weekend we stayed, so we got to benefit from a lovely breakfast outside looking out at the incredible view, and the cosy fire inside in the evening. Particularly surprising, given that we booked a shepherd's hut, was the fact that the shower was somehow nicer than our one at home!

United KingdomSome of the local roads are very steep and winding, this isn’t a negative of the property at all but just be aware!
Really cute shepherd’s hut, small (as expected) but beautifully done and so cosy with everything you need. Stunning location, perfect for getting away and relaxing. Lovely friendly hosts who couldn’t have been more helpful.

United KingdomWe loved how cosy and cute the shepard's hut was, and how comy the bed and pillows were. The extra little touches of having homemade bread and muffins were sweet and much appreciated as was the board of numbers to call if needed. The shower was very spacious and had great water pressure. The location was amazing (as was the view) and it was soo peaceful at night time as well as being surrounded by wildlife. The hosts were amazing and made us feel very welcome and at ease when we arrived. Would love to stay again.

United KingdomIrene and Barry were extremely welcoming and we were greated with some freshly made muffins and all we needed to make ourselves a lovely breakfast in the morning. The hut is suprisingly spacious and has all the modern comforts. It is just a short drive down to Hay-on-Wye and about 40 minutes from Hereford. We came for a weekend but would have happily stayed for a week. Highly recommended.

This was one of the very best places I have ever had the fortune to find! My hosts were more than welcoming, accommodating and kind. I now consider them friends and look forward to seeing them next year, if not sooner. So very grateful!

United KingdomIrene and Barry greeted us on arrival and ran through the Shepherd Huts equipment. They had left lovely, tasty breakfast breakfast products in the fridge/kitchen area and checked before our stay whether we had any breakfast food preferences/needs. Parking is off to the side of the hut in a gated gravel area so very convenient for unpacking. Bench, table and chairs on the decking. Packed away chairs radio and games available in the hut with a lovely log burner - we did not need to use as the hut was cosy. Loved the amazing view...top of the hill (but sheltered area) so view is amazing.
