Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing to dislike. Everything was great.
Fantastic little cottage in private grounds, with plenty of space. We travelled with a dog,and there was plenty of space for her to run around. Just a few minutes walk up to the railway station which goes every hour into Edinburgh, way cheaper than driving in and parking. Great communication from the hosts, and would thoroughly recommend Highfield Cottage for anyone wishing to have a break in or around Edinburgh.

United StatesIt would be nice if there was some art or tapestries, or even paint on the walls. It felt like sitting and sleeping in white boxes. Our voices echoed in the living/dining room; perhaps decor would help prevent that? It would make it feel homier, in any case. Still, for an inexpensive stay in the area, I can't complain too much. It's nice to be happy to go back home!
This self-check-in cottage is on a gorgeous property with lovely gardens and is perfectly located for a visit to Jupiter Artland. Communications were excellent, and Jill, the property owner, is so kind and welcoming in her approach. The cottage was spotless, had everything we needed for a two-night stay, and had heated bed pads with controls on each side so we could each pick the temperature we wanted (or didn't). There was also a woodstove with supplies provided, which was delightful.

United KingdomThe sofabed needs replacing and there is an intermittent issue with use of the oven, which can trip the electric (owner aware of issue)
Location was beautiful and provided easy access to Edinburgh. The cottage is clean and facilitated our requirements. Useful information folder. Friendly owners.

United Kingdom2nd stay here very nice place very nice owners only thing I'd say is the heating clicks on and off and we didn't know how to fix it or if it was connected to the other house so it felt a wee bit damp and took a few tries to light the fire because the wood was damp. Other than that comfortable stay. Nice bonus was the electric blankets in the bed that make it all cosy.

United KingdomNothing negative about the property at all.
I liked the space aswell as it was very warm and comfortable & immaculately clean. All kitchen facilities you need so was happy to even have a full day in relaxing. Internet connection was good. When we couldn't use the new modern style cooker the lady came straight away to help and was very pleasant. Situated overlooking Nice gardens...even more amazing in the summer..but also its a lovely winter break too. Will definitely be going back there regularly.

United Kingdomnot really much to say here loved it, but a wee poofy/stool in front of the sofa as I like to put my feet up. Also could do with some mats/coasters as was worried about marking the furniture.
no breakfast, as self catering, Owners were lovely, cottage excellent we even tried to book an extra night but it was already booked. Will definitely be back as also pet friendly will bring our cat next time. Perfectly located in a very quiet area, brilliant for a wee trip to my relatives in Broxburn, and to visit my Dad in his care home in Edinburgh. Rooms very spacious more than we needed, brilliant comfy cosy bed. Loved the wood-burning stove in the lounge. Nice modern Kitchen with all the amenities. Great stay.

United KingdomI thought it was going to be a small old cottage and nothing modern however I was amazed once I got there. I didn't expect it to be so spacious, beautiful and modern. It looks so much better than in photos which was a surprising bonus.. The cottage had everything we could need for our stay. Lovely views too! Beautiful garden, plenty of parking space. Attached several pictures to the review to show how beautiful this place actually is. Definitely recommend it!

United KingdomI Watch out for the shower haha I turned it on, it felt fine at first but then it burned my scalp. Keep it on the high button and have the dial before it points 12 like a clock. And it should be fine 😂
IThe pictures really don't do justice. Originally I booked the place for myself for comic con and then when I arrived I realised how massive the cottage actually is! So I invited my two close friends to stay with me and they had the sofa bed. The cottage had a mattress and extra bedding for the sofa bed which was handy while. I had the bedroom which was really spacious, comfortable big bed as well. Was lovely and quiet and very cosy so we really enjoyed the stay and will be keeping it in mind for future stays as it was 20 minutes away from our comic con venue abd shops close by. Your even ten minutes from Livingston shopping centre! Gardens were gorgeous and my friends found a tennis court which was a peasent surprise. We absolutely loved the cottage and it was spotless. We really have no complaints about it. Didn't take much photos and it won't let me share the video I took to show my friends but if you need a nice quiet place to stay for near Edinburgh without damaging your wallet this is the place. I'll most certainly be doing a solo stay at some point for some time away from the responsibilities of life ❤️
