There was nothing not to like.

Highfield was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Everything was perfect from the welcome received, our room, cleanliness and comfort, and the view from it, to the delicious breakfast served in an amazing period dining room. All the staff/owners we spoke to were very friendly and we will most certainly return when next in the area. Staying at the Highfield was quite a unique experience, in a very good way.

Lighting in room where breakfast taken not consistent. Lights dimming and returning to full brightness was distracting.

Our room was up two flights of stairs. I have an arthritic knee and I made the room with little extra effort. However, had I known I would have tried for a room lower down......then again I liked Mallard so much, I'd prably book it again.

From the moment we arrived we were treat with total kindness and helpfulness by the staff, particularly the young lady on the reception. She escorted us to our room and told us a little of the history of the house as we mad our way there. Our room was called Mallard, the decor was themed to the Gresley steam train, Mallard. There was even a scale train set running round the upper wall of the room. The bed was fantastically comfortable and the bathroom superb.

I wish we had been able to arrive earlier!

We had a wonderful, though too-short stay at Highfield. We felt looked after and spoiled. From stepping through the front door, the welcome was warm and friendly. The decor, warmth and fragrance were notable and pleasant too! The room was exceptional, with soft bedding and comfortable beds as well as snuggly pillows! I was delighted to have the chance to have a brew with proper milk and the treats were a nice touch. Breakfast was tasty and my poached eggs were spot on.What a treat we had! I can't recommend Highfield, highly enough.

If I'm going to be picky and it is picky but it would have been nice for the mugs in our room to have been washed daily . I was having to wash with water and my fingers but was unable to get the staining out each day . Also even though the cooked breakfast was fantastic for someone like myself who prefers continental I had no choice . Just 2 cereals 3 on our last morning but no yogurts or fruit , some nice pastries would have been nice. I had to ask for jam and the toast well it came out more like warmed bread which wasn't that nice but has that put us off staying again NO I have just booked another stay

What was there not to like . We loved everything. We had the suit stitch . I just loved the bath in the room. I loved raiding the larder part. I felt like a naughty child stealing sweets. The only thing was that we had to remember to go down and get tea bags and coffee. The staff are all amazing especially Georgia who dealt with our booking and found a way to store my insulin which was actually in the apartment of the owners Stan and Phyllis. What lovely lovely people. They allowed me to let myself in every morning. Nothing was too much trouble

The only thing I would say that the bacon was streaky (which we did know in advance) but could I suggest that it could be offered as well fried. Perhaps we should have requested well done when filling out the breakfast form but this is just my preference. It was a 5 star breakfast.

We loved the hotel, the staff were first class and the grounds were well presented. The breakfast was good, freshly cooked and hearty as you would expect from a full Yorkshire breakfast.

If I was to be really picky I would suggest some fruit on the menu for breakfast. However breakfast was delicious and served in a lovely room.

Highfield was the most wonderful place to stay. We were greeted warmly and shown to our fabulous room. The decor in the house is fascinating, Georgia who checked us in gave us the history and explained why the decor is so special. The gardens are also beautiful.

There were no drawers to put our clothes into, therefore we had to live out of our suitcase which is not ideal but manageable for three nights, but i wouldn't like to have to 'make do' with storage space for a longer stay. However, there is a very small area for hanging clothes (not a wardrobe). If a chest of drawers were provided the room would then be perfect. There was also a fault with the toilet cistern which could be quite noisy at times. The Mallard room is located on the top floor of Highfield House, so once the main staircase has been climbed there is an additional steep staircase to climb to get to the top floor. There is no lift and this could be problematic for anyone with mobility issues.

We stayed in The Mallard room which was very tastefully decorated in the theme of a luxurious pullman railway carriage. All the rooms are themed and quirky. There was a rainfall shower and a separate roll-top bath. The bed was very comfortable too with a gorgeous view of the garden and grounds. Our room was also very clean and warm. The staff were the highlight of this lovely hotel for us even those who were tending the garden as we took a morning walk. The staff were very friendly and always willing to help with any query. Big shout out to Georgia, Jenny, Louise, Abi and Charlott who are a credit and asset to Highfield. Breakfast was very nice with a good choice. The grounds were well kept and very pretty as we took a lovely morning walk down to and along the the river bank.
