Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Highfield was an absolute treat from checking in to checking out. The staff were so friendly and accommodating. The property, and its surroundings, is stunning, and the food was lovely.

United KingdomNo lift. However, as bags carried for us up stairs no problems. Also could have moved to a downstairs room but then would have missed the exquisite pictures and grand staircase entrance for dinner.
Staff extremely helpful, polite and friendly. Meals exceptional. House unique and gardens beautiful. Gardener took time to show me round the greenhouse. An experience well worth staying here. We will certainly be returning.

United KingdomNothing!
The building is stunning, with acres of grounds to walk in as well. The rooms are individually decorated to a very high standard. Ours, Mallard, is designed as a tribute to the steam train of that name, and even had a model train track (not working, presumably for health and safety reasons) running round above head height. The dining room is very attractive and the food excellent.

GermanyCannot fault anything
Very unique Residence, reflecting the owners’ decorating style tastefully combining modern and period. The location is ideal with Driffield centre in walking distance and easy access to explore this part of Yorkshire. Highfield guests benefit also from the extensive gardens which are beautifully looked after.

United KingdomThe stairs to the Mallard Room! However well worth the climb. Wi-fi didn’t work in the room but not a game changer. Should be easily fixed.
The building looks stunning and the room we had was exceptional. Expansive grounds for walking the dog too. Staff were really friendly and helpful. We had cocktails during the cocktail happy hour, which we’d recommend and a lovely meal in the restaurant.

Stunning accommodation. Reception was very welcoming. Breakfast was plentiful, very well cooked and excellently presented. We would have loved to dine in the restaurant for our evening meal but owing to it being a Monday it was understandably closed.

United KingdomThere was nothing not to like.
Highfield was one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in. Everything was perfect from the welcome received, our room, cleanliness and comfort, and the view from it, to the delicious breakfast served in an amazing period dining room. All the staff/owners we spoke to were very friendly and we will most certainly return when next in the area. Staying at the Highfield was quite a unique experience, in a very good way.

United KingdomOur room was up two flights of stairs. I have an arthritic knee and I made the room with little extra effort. However, had I known I would have tried for a room lower down......then again I liked Mallard so much, I'd prably book it again.
From the moment we arrived we were treat with total kindness and helpfulness by the staff, particularly the young lady on the reception. She escorted us to our room and told us a little of the history of the house as we mad our way there. Our room was called Mallard, the decor was themed to the Gresley steam train, Mallard. There was even a scale train set running round the upper wall of the room. The bed was fantastically comfortable and the bathroom superb.

United KingdomI wish we had been able to arrive earlier!
We had a wonderful, though too-short stay at Highfield. We felt looked after and spoiled. From stepping through the front door, the welcome was warm and friendly. The decor, warmth and fragrance were notable and pleasant too! The room was exceptional, with soft bedding and comfortable beds as well as snuggly pillows! I was delighted to have the chance to have a brew with proper milk and the treats were a nice touch. Breakfast was tasty and my poached eggs were spot on.What a treat we had! I can't recommend Highfield, highly enough.

United KingdomIf I'm going to be picky and it is picky but it would have been nice for the mugs in our room to have been washed daily . I was having to wash with water and my fingers but was unable to get the staining out each day . Also even though the cooked breakfast was fantastic for someone like myself who prefers continental I had no choice . Just 2 cereals 3 on our last morning but no yogurts or fruit , some nice pastries would have been nice. I had to ask for jam and the toast well it came out more like warmed bread which wasn't that nice but has that put us off staying again NO I have just booked another stay
What was there not to like . We loved everything. We had the suit stitch . I just loved the bath in the room. I loved raiding the larder part. I felt like a naughty child stealing sweets. The only thing was that we had to remember to go down and get tea bags and coffee. The staff are all amazing especially Georgia who dealt with our booking and found a way to store my insulin which was actually in the apartment of the owners Stan and Phyllis. What lovely lovely people. They allowed me to let myself in every morning. Nothing was too much trouble
