How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Unfortunately the restaurant was closed on our stay (we had booked here because b.com advised the restaurant was open on Sunday). Fortunately an email from the host advising us it was closed arrived in time for us to make alternative arrangements. However, the breakfast was excellent & made us wish the restaurant had been open for dinner.
Small clean room, very comfy bed all spotlessly clean.

just a small niggle really, the single bed in the room I had was uncomfortable, had a high spot in the middle so ended up either hanging off of one side or against the wall. The hotel was just fine otherwise, unfortunately the night I stayed there was a local idiot with a loud exhaust who ruined sleep for a lot of people by just driving around the block for hours. Sadly there are idiots everywhere.
friendly informative staff, nice welcome, clean adequate room. Breakfast was delicious as was the evening meal, great choice of food too. Felt safe there.

Room was very tiny and shower scalding and wouldn't turn off. Very minor considering the other good points. Shame the parking is limited too.
Polite and friendly service. Restaurant food was fab with locally sourced produce. Room was fine for purpose of visit. Single bed in very compact single room. Good hotel in a fab location on the main street.

Bathroom fan needed maintenance and toilet seat was loose. Bathroom a little cramped.
Good for a short stay, solo traveler or perhaps with a partner who is okay with basic, functional comfort. Room was small but cosy, clean.

The room was clean and looked way better than the pictures given. My train had gotten cancelled and staff were very helpful and flexible in allowing me to extend another night.

There was nothing that i didnt like.

It's an older building so you can hear the people in the rooms next to you, but everyone was respectful and not to loud.
Room #14 is the perfect room for a solo traveler. I had the best night of sleep there. The water pressure in the shower is fantastic. I arrived early and was able to check in early. The location is perfect for exploring the town and hoping on a bus or ferry for exploring.

The badroom was clean but a little smelling. Good shower. No one at the reception. We had to Call someone to receive the key. Over priced for this time of the Year. Better deals were available.
The room was beter than we expected after first seeing the hotel at the outside and passing the aged reception that gave not a pleasant welcome. The breakfast was satifiing. The lady that served us was very friendly.

Like all of scotland, it's an older building. I could hear my upstairs neighbors quite well, and the window had a huge draft, but there were thick curtains and a good radiator to keep the room warm.
This was a perfect little room for one. I stayed two nights here. The two nights book ended my weekend trip to Orkney Island. I was allowed to leave my big luggage at the hotel, and when I returned, I was able to check in early, and my bags were waiting for me in the room.
