Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United Kingdom1. Checkin was at the bar in the pub. We had to wait a while for staff to become free from serving bar customers to check in. 2. After pub closes to access the rooms you had to walk around the back of the office the property. We arrived back after midnight. Whilst sensor lights lit some of the way there is no path to the access door , it’s just grass some green bushes & mud luckily it had only rained a little. A paved path to the access door is a recommendation.
Nicely presented property, plenty of parking & good location. Rooms was clean & had toiletries & tea & coffee facility. Breakfast was not included in our price so we ordered off the menu. The breakfast was freshly cooked and excellent. Drinks were unlimited and complimentary.

United KingdomThe rooms need some tlc, the beds and pillows are not very comfortable. The toilet roll holder was coming away from the wall. The bathroom door handle was also coming away from the door. We stayed for 4 nights, there are no drawers to put your clothes, underwear. Just hanging space and a shelf above it, which I couldn't reach and relied on my husband to pass me everything. Some of our things ended up with marks on, from the shelf. A table with drawers in and bedside tables with drawers would still use the same amount of room but solve the storage issue.
The Fox is a comfortable pub, the staff are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable on the surrounding area. No iron when we got to the room, but we only had to ask, and an iron and ironing board were taken to the room. The food is very good, a good range and all cooked to order. The breakfast each morning is great, too. The car park is very big, we were always able to park, no matter what time we got to the pub. Close to St Alban's train station into London and a 20-minute drive to Harry Potter Studios.

United KingdomDespite leaving a note on Booking and calling 48 hours before to confirm early check-in, when I arrived, the rather blunt member of staff behind the bar said that rooms were unavailable until after 3 pm, and that was that. This meant I had to get ready, do my hair, put up, and brush my teeth in the pub toilet!
- Loved Marlow/Marley the Basset Hound! Very friendly and well-behaved - Nice clean, spacious bedroom - Good amount of parking - Easy to find

United KingdomThe room was slightly outdated and could do with abit of a clean. There was also some mould in the bathroom. In the evening there is some noise from the pub below but it wasn’t too bad.
The property was a good location to go to the Harry Potter Studios and was easy to find off the motorway. The bed was comfortable and was what we needed for the stay. Room felt safe and there was the option to bolt the door across. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was really nice. We liked that juice and coffee were free and open to help yourself downstairs in the morning.

United KingdomTook a little while to check in when we arrived as the pub was so busy. Not the perfect start after a four hour journey. Service in the restaurant on the Saturday slipped a bit with quite a wait for food, even for a kid's dessert.
Breakfast was lovely, particularly the beef brisket hash. Staff were great including the housekeepers who were so sweet and work really hard. Perfect location for St Albans and Harry Potter Studio Tour. Plenty of parking

United KingdomSome minor issues with the room ... twin headed shower only seemed to work with both shower heads in operation - couldn't switch between them (so the shower was either fully on through both shower heads, or off); TV remote control couldn't be used to adjust channel or volume (hotel staff had to explain to us how to use the hidden buttons on the TV itself to adjust the volume and how to use a workaround on the handset to get the channels we wanted)
Incredibly helpful and considerate staff team. Nothing was too much trouble.

United KingdomAlthough the room was very comfortable, clean and spacious, the bathroom lacked a little ring or rail for hand towel (not terrible) it would have been more convenient. Also I needed to be really careful exiting the shower, just recovering from surgery, so would have appreciated something to hold on to. Enjoyed our stay, however the breakfast was not as good as it could have been. We had mashed avacado on toast one poached egg with a little salad accompliment, tea, coffee and juice available, cost £9.50,in my opinion a little overpriced. As I have said enjoyable stay, would definitely stay again and would be happy to recommend this establishment
Lovely old pub and hotel. Went to a family function nearby. Friendly staff very welcoming, easy to check in and out. Rooms had plenty of electricity points and USB ports

United KingdomRoom 12 - The curtains didn't close as part of it was hanging down. The wifi was extremely poor. Hairline crack in basin. Room 14 - There was a tablet found in the entrance to the bathroom and some hairs in the bed :( The serving time was extremely slow at dinner. Although the servers were busy we waited for over 40 minutes for the dessert. I ordered a Grains and butternut squash Salad and had asked if the waitress could ask the kitchen to replace it with avocado for health reasons. Rather than explaining to me that the salad topping is pre-prepared,and mixed my salad arrived and it was literally salad leaves, no grains, no pomegranate seeds, no couscous, no lentils just leaves and dressing on the side as requested and two and a half slices of over-ripe mushy avocado on the top. It looked like a big side salad garnish and absolutely not worth £14.95. But the waiting time was shocking, I think we sat down just gone 9pm and ordered two of the same salads, a macaroni cheese and one dessert and left at 11.20pm after waiting for one dessert for over 45 mins and over an hour if not more for three simple mains. Two the same. Disappointed. Breakfast the same, timing issues.
The check in by Pedro was exceptional. In fact his managing of queries from prior to arrival to check out was absolutely impressive and he naturally went above and beyond. From being courteous, knowledgeable, carrying a heavy bag, he made us feel as if we were at the centre of the booking.
