No heating on in the room when I arrived. (room 763) It was cold outside and the room wasn't very welcoming. Radiator is full of fluff and dust. The room and bathroom were clean. Poor WiFi in the room, good in the restaurant. Bathroom is compact to say the least. Breakfast layout not easy to work out on a first visit.

Easy check-in. Good security (need room key to operate lift to room levels). Location on Princes Street easy to find from the station. Own restaurant. Pricey but good food. Position of room, top floor to the rear. i.e. away from Princes Street so quiet.

The rooms were not the same as the pictures when I looked during the booking process! While the bar area is very modern the rooms are a little dated.

Location was ideal for wandering around the city.

Internet was terrible, I was not able to used the WiFi in my room, because it was connected but I lost the signal every minute. I am glad I have a European mobile line and I used my own cellphone data, otherwise I would have been disconnected .

The only thing we were disappointed with is that there was no fridge in the room, we always require a fridge as we take juice for the morning and drinks for the evenings, also as we were staying for 2 nights, we did not receive bottled water on the 2nd night, which for the price we paid we should have had bottled water for the 2 nights.

The room was lovely and comfortable, location was perfect and the breakfast was excellent.

Originally we had rooms on floor two and floor six. The room on six was small, cramped and smelt damp. After talking with staff they moved my friends into the room next door to me. Why couldn't that have done that initially? Also expensive for drinks. Food at dinner was ok but nothing special. Breakfasts were fabulous. Excellent choice.

On our stay, we encounter a few issues. As we entered the room a window was open and we tried to close it as there was a noisy machine outside the window but we couldn't close it. We tried to phone reception but the phone in the room didn't work and in the room we were in we had no signal and the wifi didn't work. I went to reception and they gave us a different wifi to use which was good. And someone came to the room and managed to get the window closed but was broken and couldn't be used. The noise from the machine could still be heard all night long, resulting in a bad nights sleep.

The location of the hotel is great. Small rooms but okay for short trip. Mostly clean, few marks on bed sheets.

I like the Mercure in general, but the single rooms were a bit disappointing, outdated, the bathrooms are screaming for renovations, especially the shower curtains...The bed is very uncomfortable, with the worst pillows ever. I'm really not picky, and it's all good for a short stay if you don't mind those details and are not spending time in your room.

Location is key here, makes it extremely easy to move around if you need to be in the city centre.
