Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomSmall fence to the rear decking similar to the new pods would be a good idea. Just so the dog could sit outside without being tied up whilst using hot tub.
Well furnished, comfortable and quiet even though all the other lodges were full. In a perfect location for relaxing, local well sign posted walks and good facilities nearby.

United KingdomNothing detrimental but would recomend some small area upgrading. Hot tub area not private or closed in even though it is to be pet friendly.area . at rear could be more utilised for each lodge rathe than the dug out earth piled up. Could do with light at night on seat area at back maybe solar power with motion sensor. Tv could do with being more recent tv channels as set up is freeview now and is 3 months behind . The WiFi very poor tried numerous times to get bbc I player, stv player itvx or other channels and Internet but every 10 mins drops off have to start again. Kitchen light bit of pain as you have to keep moving or light goes out , timer adjustment I thinks. Could benefit a chest of drawers or wardrobe for clothes no storage.. On safety matter if God forbid a fire evac you could really do with lighting on escape route and a gravel path as have to walk up grass slope and along uneven ground small cost for safety of guests.
Layout of Lodge very good, hot tub great. location good. Very warm accommodation nice homely character to property well done.and pet friendly.

United KingdomThe hot tub wasn't very private and the view, whilst ok, wasn't as good as it could be given the location. There were also a lot of flies around, perhaps some sort of fly zapper would be useful. Also, the TV didn't connect to the WiFi so we couldn't access any of our TV accounts which was quite disappointing.
The lodge and restaurant were really nice. Lots of space in the lodge and the food and service in the restaurant were top class. Lodge was spotless clean and had all the facilities for a short break. Lots of outdoors stuff to do right from the door.

United KingdomPrivacy from hot tub - minor issue which could be solved with a half/quarter panel to block out the view from other lodges. Did not stop us using it though!

United KingdomOur switches cut out at 11 pm we had no way to finish watching a film we were watching. Couldn't charge our phones for the drive home the next day. The WiFi also cut out so had no way of contacting anyone. This was the only downfall couldn't fault anything else.
The room and hot tub were amazing. The staff in the pub were so lovely made the trip even better telling us little things to go see.

United KingdomCouldn’t get up to the lodges because of the snow/ice on the drive up - had no warning of this or any idea that this might be an issue. Had to get a lift from some locals in a 4x4. Also no soundproofing between rooms - could hear the guests on both sides of us (early morning & late at night in the hot tub).
Nice open & fresh space with clean and comfortable bed. Hot tub is a great added touch however not as private as you would hope.

NorwayI am writing this review due to the way things were handled during the situation we found ourselves in, with the red and amber weather warning in Scotland on the days we were due to visit the lodge we had booked. Due to the severity of the situation and risk to life, the evening before our scheduled arrival date to the lodge, I reached out to booking.com and the lodge. Booking.com informed myself that they could change the date for the booking. Following a few messages back and forth, they asked me to confirm the change, which I did. I was also in communication with the manager at the lodge via sms and they said they had spoken to booking.com and approved the date change. The next morning I see the dates haven't changed so I again reach out to booking.com who said the lodge did not accept the date change. I contacted the lodge and they said since we booked via booking.com that they couldn't do anything and that booking.com has a 24hr change policy - which was never mentioned by booking.com. Both parties saying reach out to the other but neither able to come up with a solution. The Scottish government adviced against all travel to the areas so we were not going to go against this advice and risk our lives. Booking.com never reached out to me saying there would be an issue changing the date, they never said they were pending approval from the lodge, they never mentioned any 24hr policy update. Similarly, there seems to have been mis-communication between employees at the lodge who gave conflicting information, via the app and sms. These were special circumstances which I would have thought booking.com and the lodge would have taken into consideration - or at the very start of the whole conversation said they couldn't do anything about. I spent hours back and forth between all parties, receiving contradicting information.

United KingdomAbsolutely loved our stay at the log cabin hotel. We stayed in spruce cabin and it was perfect! Such beautiful decor and so spacious! The views from our lodge were amazing felt like we were in the middle of nowhere and the hot tub was an added bonus! Warm when we arrived and was cleaned out the morning of our second night stay. Also got the birthday package for my partners birthday and was blown away with the effort of decorations and balloons can’t thank the staff enough! The place is also super dog friendly we brought our little chihuahua with us and he loved it. The restaurant was also amazing and delicious! We will defo be back can’t wait to pick a different cabin to experience next time! Thank you so much 😊

United KingdomHot tub could have been fenced off better so it wasn’t opening right out to the wooded area which was a mud bath and looked like a building site. Couldn’t enjoy the hot tub as much as we wanted.

United KingdomWe fully enjoyed our stay, however the only issue we encountered was the door locks, the alignment isn't quite right so can make it difficult to lock/unlock them.
We loved our stay, out of the way and able to fully enjoy the nature around you. The living roof is a beautiful touch. I'd fully recommend the hot tub at night, keep lights off and watch the stars. Clean, comfortable and a fantastic shower! For the kitchen, remember to take everything you need. There is a little village shop in Kirkmichael down the road that I would recommend checking in for anything you've missed!
