Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThis is a busy hostel, so it gets dirty kinda quick. The street noises were a bit loud throughout the night.
This is a great hostel in Edinburgh! The location is amazing. It’s right next to the castle and the royal mile. Each bed has a plug and a little shelf to set your phone and stuff while it’s charging overnight. The lockers were a good size. You can fit a whole packed backpack inside. In my room, there was a little sitting area to get ready without being in the way of others. Breakfast was basic, but good. Lots of great amenities.

Czech RepublicThe kitchen was dirty most of the time. It would be great to have some better suction in the bathrooms, the smell and water stayed there too long. The washing machine didn't wash out one stain I had even after the second run even though one hand wash did the job after and normally my washing machine would get rid of it.
The location was perfect. I want to have as much privacy as I can get so pod style beds and shared private bathrooms were the best. The breakfast was a nice touch.

BrazilWi-fi connection wasn't working great inside the dorm. My bed was near the window, far from the "center" of the room, it was quite bad. But in reception or kitchen, that was good.
Excellent location, clean, confortable and big bedroom. Besides that, location was also a plus. Really close to anything and you could just walk around the city. Totally worth it staying there.

CanadaThe water in the shower is boiling hot, it makes it a challenge to have a normal shower.
I had a great stay at this hostel! My room was very clean and the staff welcoming and helpful. The luggage storage also helped a lot before checking in and after checking out. The location is amazing, very central and close to all the main attractions.

United StatesNo ventilation in the room, it felt very steamy. The bathroom sinks were so small they were almost useless. I was also not a fan of the shower knob that you had to keep pressing to have water come out. I also never figured out how to set the shower water temperature. It seemed the water either came out scalding hot, or arctic cold.
Fantastic location, very affordable, loved the private bathrooms.

FinlandThe pod did get a bit stuffy during the night, and it's only April so might not be the comfiest place come summer. Opening the curtain a bit lets in fresh air. The shower/toilet combos were okay if you were the first person in in the morning, but would get quite humid after someone had showered. Never really had to wait for access though, so that was good. There were other options on the same floor though, for separate showers and toilets.
Absolutely amazing location in Old Town. First time staying in a pod and would 100 % recommend it. You're not able to tell that there's 20 others staying in the same room: luckily people were very respectful and quiet and when you shut the curtain to your pod you have your personal space. In the pod you might hear if someone's snoring, but it's not loud enough to bother you. There's a bit of room next to your mattress so you can store your things next to you for convenience. Also outlets to charge your phone, although I found that the usb wasn't quite as good as using a normal charger. Liked the fact there were hooks and railings for clothes inside the pod. Locker underneath the pods was a good size, and lockable with a code. Some pods had separate lockers and you would need your own padlock for those. Staff was friendly and the reception is open 24/7. Didn't really use the kitchen facilities, but looked like there's enough space to store your things.

United StatesRoughly 30% of the luggage lockers were broken, we struggles finding one to fit our suitcases so we could explore the city. The staff were nice and let us store our suitcases in a separate locked room in the meantime. The showers were also dirty, but that's understandable for a shared bathroom at night.
The staff was great! Very sweet and helpful, and the space/rooms were good, and fun social opportunities!!

Sri LankaHad to climb three floors for our room. I think it's a british thing to not have an elevator for 3 storey buildings. Also the ladder to the top bunk wasn't safe enough. My wife fell down once climbing down from the top bed. I also found it hard to climb and had an almost fall twice. Also found the bed area to be little warm.
Bathrooms were really clean and exceeded my expectations for a hostel. And they were single toilets and bathrooms so you really weren't sharing it with anyone while you're using it. Location was unreal, it was only minutes walk from Princes street, Edinburgh castle and Royal mile. It was the main reason why I booked this place and it didn't disappoint. 24 hours reception is pretty handy too. Staff were really friendly as well.

IrelandSince the windows in dorm rooms stay open at night and the location is the city centre, there's quite a lot of noise coming from the stairs and pubs surrounding the hostel, mostly intoxicated tourists. It's to be expected, obviously. Otherwise, the place was rather peaceful despite a good number of guests staying there.
The place is very clean and well organised

Couldn’t get a more central location right on Grassmarket. The female only dorms were clean and quiet. Bar and other communal areas well kept and lockers can be utilised to store luggage before and after check in. Not all hostels are that secure with their luggage storage
