I had asked for a bottom bunk of the bed, that was about provided But they have me another room with the bottom bunk, and i hear to climb another flight off stairs for the same

Roughly 30% of the luggage lockers were broken, we struggles finding one to fit our suitcases so we could explore the city. The staff were nice and let us store our suitcases in a separate locked room in the meantime. The showers were also dirty, but that's understandable for a shared bathroom at night.

The staff was great! Very sweet and helpful, and the space/rooms were good, and fun social opportunities!!

Not so much the property as the people staying there. Very noisy, slamming doors and taking phone calls late at night.

Had to climb three floors for our room. I think it's a british thing to not have an elevator for 3 storey buildings. Also the ladder to the top bunk wasn't safe enough. My wife fell down once climbing down from the top bed. I also found it hard to climb and had an almost fall twice. Also found the bed area to be little warm.

Bathrooms were really clean and exceeded my expectations for a hostel. And they were single toilets and bathrooms so you really weren't sharing it with anyone while you're using it. Location was unreal, it was only minutes walk from Princes street, Edinburgh castle and Royal mile. It was the main reason why I booked this place and it didn't disappoint. 24 hours reception is pretty handy too. Staff were really friendly as well.

Since the windows in dorm rooms stay open at night and the location is the city centre, there's quite a lot of noise coming from the stairs and pubs surrounding the hostel, mostly intoxicated tourists. It's to be expected, obviously. Otherwise, the place was rather peaceful despite a good number of guests staying there.

Appeared to be mixed gender shower facilities as there was unexpectedly a male in showers when I used them, so might not be suitable for everyone

Couldn’t get a more central location right on Grassmarket. The female only dorms were clean and quiet. Bar and other communal areas well kept and lockers can be utilised to store luggage before and after check in. Not all hostels are that secure with their luggage storage

Very central to the historical part so it makes it easy to walk around, it was a chill place with a nice vibe

The lockers under the bed don’t actually stay locked, so I had to attach a padlock to my bag zips for peace of mind. Pillows quite flat too but works if you fold it in half! Showers are on a timer, around 30 seconds but you can start it up again, I had warm water everytime though- there’s no way to change the temp on it.

24 hour reception with super friendly staff, a common room on two floors and a nicely equipped kitchen on the second floor- has a microwave and stove etc. heaps of toilets/showers on each floor, always clean. I stayed in a pod and it was surprisingly spacious, had two shelves, a drying rack, 3 hooks and a USB charger with some fun coloured led lights inside (and a normal light). More charging ports in the common room, breakfast served there every morning (mainly toast w some cereal options). Heaps of shops and cafes nearby for cheaper food, and on a strip with lots of cool bars so plenty to do. They do two pub crawls a week too, would definitely stay here again, great vibes!

The sheets looked old. Lots of stairs to get to your room (it’s hard with luggage). No curtains for the beds so not much privacy. The showers are kinda weird - you have to keep pressing a button on the wall or the water will stop. You can’t control the temperature or the water pressure. Also the shower head was located very high, even in the female-only shower, so the average woman would get constantly splashed in the face by lots of water by showering, and would have to put certain parts of her body up in the air in order to wash them. Overall, it was great and I will return:)

Had to pay to use a towel also had to pay to lock my things away from other people in my room which is a joke. Also paid extra for breakfast what is ham and cheese sandwiches that was also quite hilarious won’t be staying again for them reasons

Perfect location within the city centre and close to Edinburgh Waverley train station. The pods were absolutely great!! Very private and spacious. The lockers underneath were very spacious too, it easily fitted my backpack and there was a lot of room left for other stuff.

Poorly ventilated bathrooms, and the sinks are too small so it's impossible to wash your face without splashing yourself or the floor. Kitchen could be a bit more equipped.

Great location. Spacious pod beds with large lockers are a perfect combination of privacy and hostel experience. Large number of bathrooms.

Not much to complain about at all. For hostels- this is one of the best

I’ll come back to Kick Ass every time I’m in Edinburgh. The hostel is always very clean, it’s a great atmosphere, and in a great location. Probably one of the best showers and bathroom facilities I’ve seen in hostels. I’m always really impressed with the staff- Oscar was super helpful and I really appreciated how laid back but also extremely helpful he was. Made such a difference in my trip! Thanks so much!
