Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SpainI was really surprised with the hostel. The location in grass market it´s perfect to stroll around the Edinburgh´s old town, turistic places, pubs etc...I was in a 22 beroom and it wasn´t noisy at all during night. In the corridor you will find individual toilets with showers. They were clean and not busy at all. The common areas: bar and kitchen were great: the decoration, the facilities and the atmosphere. About the staff the were super kind with me in the check in and in the check out. To sum up it is a very convinient hostel to spend some days in Edinburgh.

United KingdomNo lift to carry heavy suitcases to the 3rd floor. The pods are too hot and stuffy in warm weather. The installation of a small fan in each pod would make it better. Towels are £3.50 a pop to rent, which is fine, but wished this was mentioned at the desk, as I would have taken one.

This hostel is perfect for everyone which want to be close the most important atraction on this city! Thanks to localisation I didn't lost time to travell in public comunication to see the castle, momunemts or museums because I had maybe 10/15 min by foot. Bathroom was been cleaning, services very kind and helpful. In every room was padlock locker so I didn't have to worry about my stuff.

United StatesLittle ventilation in the pod and the hostel overall was very hot in late spring; I can only imagine what it would be like in the middle of summer.
The value for your money is outstanding. The mattress in the pod was super comfortable and there’s space in the pod for a small bag, plus outlets and lights and other amenities. They’re surprisingly soundproof. Shower rooms with private toilets and sinks are a plus. In return, the bar is a bit expensive but I can’t complain with how little I spent on the room.

United KingdomThe loud sound of the door when someone opens or closes it during the night. Was very disturbing 😅
Very comfortable bed with an access to sockets and lights. Despite the people around, you feel comfortable as you have enough space in your ‘capsule’. The showers and toilets were clean. The location is perfect, there are lots of cafes around where you can have a traditional breakfast. I would definitely come back there once I’m in Edinburgh again.

United Kingdomtoilet and shower
location is perfect. You can see the back side of EDinburgh castle when you stand in front of the hostel. Lots of shops, pubs and cafe & restaurants nearby which was great. Room was okay. The pods helped in term of lil privacy when staying in hostel. But the toilet and shower facilities were not upto my expectations. The toilets are very very small and the washbasin is too tine that you cant even wash your face properly. Breakfast is very basic. but you cant expect much for 5 £ i guess.

United Kingdom3 flights of stairs with no lift. But hotels with lifts are £200 a night lol. So, pay your money take your choice, i would absolutely stay here again
Im 69 and this is the first hostel ive ever stayed in, first time ive ever backpack traveled. I think Kickass may have spoilt me for any other hostel, I was nervous about the prospect so really surprised and relieved at how organised it all is. Check in is 3pm , i thought it was 2pm so my fault but no worries there is a storage for luggage until you can check in. Unfortunately at least half of the lockers had broken locks but i was lucky enough that someone was just leaving as i arrived. Once checked in you have your own locker by your bed. I was able to book a pod bed and i really appreciated the privacy and storage room that gave me. The bed was really comfortable and i slept very well. It can get a little overwarm in the dorm but was fine at night for sleeping. The bathroom and toilet facilities are excellent in separate area to the bedrooms and there was a block of showers and toilets on each floor (3 floors). There is a good size kitchen with everything you need including dry food storage fridges and freezer. It is important that you label your food with name and check out date otherwise it will be thrown out. There was a pen in the kitchen but don’t rely on it. Be a good person and clean up after yourself, to be honest most people do but there is always someone that still has mummy needs and wont wash up their stuff. There is a bar downstairs combined with reception, it looked welcoming but i was too done in each evening to use it, im sure its great. There is also a chill out lounge next to the kitchen. Towels are not supplied and costs £3.50 to hire one. All bedding is supplied but only 1 pillow. Everything is as clean as it can be with so many people coming and going and there always seemed to be staff around clearing up. I didn’t have much interaction with the staff but they seemed friendly enough. The hostel is in a great position on Grassmarket, lots of bars and cafes in the immediate area.

DenmarkThe sink in the bathrooms were tiny (at the least the private ones) and it was really hard to wash my face there.
The hostel is nice overall, friendly staff. The mattress was okay, not the softest, but the pod I was in was nice, had decent space, and was clean. I was happy that I could store my backpack throughout the day in the lockers.
