Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThere would not be enough comfortable seating for 6 people, as 2 would have to seat perched on the window seat. Garden is a disgrace, bbq but no table and only 3 chairs, very rough under foot, and overgrown. No trays., Baking, roasting tins rusty. Bath plug sticks in, and hot tap can stick on. Need at least one bright light for sitting reading etc in living area.
Lovely house with good rooms and quirky features. Ideal for the dog, as totally enclosed. Good bathrooms and comfortable beds. Excellent cleaning lady. Plenty of space for everything.. great location.

United KingdomThe weather was a bit mixed, and the temperature was on the cool side. The warm air heating system didn't work particularly well and was rather erratic! We had to rely on the wood stove to keep the living area warm which required regular trips to the local shop for bags of wood etc. The kitchen was very well appointed however, the cooker/oven was overly complicated to operate!!
Great location. Plenty of room in the house. Good outdoor, secure space for the dog. Lots of excellent books, maps and information on Harris provided. Joceline, who looked after the property was first class and dealt promptly with any issues we had.

AustraliaIt is not really set up for all adults like the 4 of us. It is geared more for families. We also had trouble with the TV.
It was cosy and nice to be self sufficient after a lot of hotels

United KingdomIt was perfect in every way.
We absolutely loved everything about Kilda House, from booking through to departure. The house is beautifully decorated, clean and with gorgeous views. We cannot wait to book another stay here and highly recommend this property for anyone who wants a home away from home on the Isle of Harris.

United KingdomOn arrival we discovered that only 1 bedroom had been made up for us, and we were 2 friends travelling together, so although I obviously didn't mind making up a second room, I felt all the rooms should have been ready for guests. Sadly the beds could have been a bit better but then I guess they may suit some people. I'd read somewhere that they had memory foam mattresses but this was definitely not the case, I ended up having to use the twin bedroom which was fine but there has obviously been a leak in the ceiling and there was mould on one of the windows that might need seeing to. There were a few issues in the kitchen, mainly an unfathomable oven, a broken extractor fan, a backdoor and kitchen window that wouldn't open. The door even had a fire escape sign above it and I wondered if it was some sort of quirky joke? In the main upstairs bathroom you couldn't move the shower door above the bath so you needed long arms to reach around to the taps for a bath and the key safe didn't work, but perhaps these kind of issues would not be a problem for most people. Having said all that, we did enjoy staying in the house as it has a fabulous outlook and friendly feel...
Loved the sitting and dining rooms, fabulous views, very homely and welcoming...great location and wonderful tromp l'oeil paintings. Well equipped.

United KingdomFantastic range of facilities available, everything you could possibly need for a trip! Very close to the local shop, there's a beach at the top of the road, and the decor inside the property is gorgeous! Pillows and duvets are extremely soft, there are motion activated lights in the hallway to see whilst walking through the house in the dark, and the artwork painted on the panels in the lounge area are beautiful too! Property owners left a binder in the dining room with a guide for the local area, boat tours, shops and restaurants, and more to have activities which suit everyone. Would most definitely stay again if in the area :)

United KingdomThe house is very nice place to stay. It is attractively and individually decorated, comfortably furnished and spacious. Everything is to a high standard. Leverburgh has a shop, pub and trips to St Kilda so is a good place to stay. The property is good value for money. We stayed in January and the house was nice and warm.

United KingdomThe beds were horrendously uncomfortable. We felt every spring each time we moved. Came home shattered from rubbish sleeps and not well rested and feeling achy. New mattresses are definitely needed. The oven could only be operated between specific times. You couldnt use it in the mornings. The freezer door was stiff to open and you had to push the whole unit to open it. The main kitchen cupboard never closed properly. No draining board in kitchen. House needs updating!! House key was left in back of door and not in key safe as advised.
We liked the location.
