Breakfast was available but I only had it 1 out 3 days. However, it was lovely when I did have it. My stay at the house was a pleasant stay. The owners were lovely and approachable. The location was great, easy excess to London.

The place is very dated but I knew that from the photos when I booked. I did find the bed quite uncomfortable but it’s a very personal thing! I did struggle to warm the room up unfortunately.

Donald made me feel welcome when I checked in. The room and the bathroom were clean and the TV worked perfectly.

When I came back late in the dark, the light didn't stretch as far as the front entrance, and there's a step there which, had I not been alert to it, could have had me fall. However, when I mentioned this to the owners, they said I was the first to mention it and they'd get a couple of lights on either side, and maybe change the range of the automatic light that comes on as you approach the front door. The building could do with some updating - it was fine, but in winter, may be chilly wth single glazing. And I'm not used to sharing a bathroom - both toilets were occupied when I got up, so anyone with problems with kidneys or bowels may find it worrying. However, minor points really!

The breakfast was good, and when I asked for filter coffee, not instant, there was some available - good, as my usual morning routine is a pot of coffee. Janice and her parner were both friendly, and the place was very clean. I felt safe there, and it is only a ten minute walk from the station, has car parking facilities if you are coming by road, is close to shops and to a lovely walk along the river. If I were going to come back here again, I'd definitely book a room here.

Breakfast was a typical cooked breakfast, although no offer of cereals or fruit if cooked breakfast not your thing. Location was very useful to get into London, although because it's single glazed and on a main road inevitably had traffic noise. It was a hot night so the choice was between closing windows to reduce the sound or having a hot room. However bedroom was very large with a sink in it.

The first floor bathroom could be fully useable. But then it’s probably fixed by now, so I imagine that’s sorted already.

The excellent landlady (Janice? I have a terrible memory for names. Sorry) was welcoming and helpful and was apologetic that the bathroom on my floor was temporarily out of action. The premises in general showed signs of wear and tear but the overall feel was of a homely shabbiness that I rather liked. It’s not some soulless, sterile identikit hotel, it’s a guest house of the old school, and perfectly charming in its way. Not the poshest place you’ll ever stay, but excellent value and with friendly accommodating staff.
