How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Asked breakfast staff to help with suitcase at 10.30am no one arrived. Cleaner helped me. Breakfast table very poor. Dingy restaurant and no staff to greet you. One member of staff in kitchen coughing up phlegm, we were sitting at the table horrified!. I had already eaten or I would have walked out. I expected much more. No shelf in bathroom for toiletries and one tiny bar of soap for bath and basin.
Very nice room with en suite bathroom TV ,WiFi and tea and coffee facility.. Larawas lovely when I checked in. Pigeon flew into room and I managed to get it out. I phoned Lara who offered me another room as the pigeon had made a mess. I declined.

Great location perfectly in the midst of local life of Hitchin. Lovely memories as this was the first night of a family celebration weekend.

Not open in the daytime, had to call a mobile number to get let in and check in which isn't the end of the world but after a long day at work just want to get in. Was a lot of road noise from boy racers which would wake me up frequently, but maybe i was just unlucky and stayed on race night, bed was actually comfortable.
Good breakfast, room was nice enough and clean. Really good sized TV for a hotel, probably one of the best i've had in a room. Definitely can't knock the place for the price, really well situated within Hitchin, plenty of restaurants and bars within a small radius to keep anyone entertained.

room was dated not could do with the lick of paint. The kitchen sink in the bedroom room 37 was blocked and the room was cold the gas cental heating wasnt working used the potable electric heater provided. the four poster bed was riped on the side not repaired.

There are small things that are more for maintenance to sort but otherwise it is an overall good stay
Great breakfast, the location of the hotel is amazing and the Lara who meets you to check you in is really lovely. I also think the rooms are fair for what you are being charged and the car park is a bonus

the room we were in could do with a lick of paint and curtains that fit the width of the windows properly. the tv doesn’t connect to that many channels
location is perfect, with really good parking facilities. the breakfast was delicious the staff very nice

The TV did not work as there was the wrong remote.
Overall value for money so will be returning. The breakfast is excellent and the lady is very kind. Bed was comfortable and the room was clean

The breakfast was included, unfortunately this was limited and they had no vegetarian or vegan options it was just traditional breakfast. We would suggest a meat free sausage or some fruit and an alternative plant milk would have been nice.
Staff friendly, and we liked our executive room.

TV in bedroom was not positioned correctly because of 4 poster bed - bed post in the way, memory foam mattress and pillows are not to everyone's liking as they where really hard, shower head leaked and made the bathroom floor very slippy, just little things that need attention nothing major

The entrance was awful; it was more something I’d expect a B and B housing folks on benefits to look like. I nearly backed out when I went up the stairs . Thankfully the room itself was lovely

The card access was a little temperemental but did work. Shower in top floor room was impeded by sloping roof - ideally, bath and toilet positions should be swapped around.
Food was excellent and staff very helpful. Car parking was free and easily accessible. I'd stay/eat there again.

The room needs updating. The side lamps didn't work nor did the microwave or blinds.
As always it is very central to pubs restaurants etc.
