Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

It was so quiet, there were no street lights so we could see the stars. In the mornings I would stand at the door and all I could hear was the dawn chorus. It was a very peaceful, healing place. The cottage itself was clean, quite compact but big enough and very comfortable. I wanted to stay another night but my husband couldn’t get time off. The village was beautiful with a great pub, The Old Star. We had a lovely meal there at a great price.

United KingdomThere was no washing machine. It probably says in the blurb, but we didn't read it as just assume all places have one. There wasnt really room in the kitchen but an underground electric wire to the shed could solve the problem. Our dog was ill on the last day so trying to hand-wash the bedding was a nightmare. However, it is a beautiful little cottage. The cottage is hard to find. A little detailed map would bed good..
The cottage is very pretty and quaint, and a nice little garden area across the way. It was very clean and the beds are very comfy. Lots of places to walk the dog and highly recommend the local pub..

United KingdomNight lights on the stairs kept us awake Parking was a bit tight, garden wasn't what was expected especially being a dog owner as it wasn't attached to the cottage. Kitchen was very small, and space limited. A welcome pack would have been nice as no nearby shops when we first arrived.
Village location was beautiful, wonderful village pub, The Old Star.

United KingdomNothing. The stairs are quite steep and may not suit everyone.
The property was spotlessly clean, and ideal for a couple. The cottage had everything we needed for a self-catering holiday. It is a great location for exploring the seadside towns of Bridlington, Scarborough and Filey. The Wolds are well worth exploring too and we enjoyed a visit to the Eden Camp museum. The pub in the village serves meals and the food is excellent.

United KingdomAbsolutely nothing other than not realising there was no washing machine until we got there. We were staying 8 nights so it was required (my bad for not reading properly). Wasnt really a problem though as we went into Bridlington and used a launderette. The road that runs alongside the cottages could be quite busy as it was harvesting season so something to bear in mind with children and pets.
The property was very clean, well equipped and homely for a family stay with dogs. It is in a lovely location thats very accessible to many places for visiting e.g. Scarborough, Bridlington, Filey, and York. It has its own personal little enclosed front garden which was ideal for sitting in with the dogs without worrying about them getting out. Own parking space. Friendly neighbours. We as a Family absolutely loved the cottage and I personally didnt want to leave. Will definitely be returning.

United KingdomIt would have been nice to have 2 sun loungers to relax on (plenty of room to store them in the shed) and a clothes line or airer. It should be a heat detector not smoke detector in the kitchen as the smoke detector went off when we were frying bacon! The bed needs moving closer to the door as I kept hitting my head on the sloping ceiling!
This small bright airy cottage was clean, nicely furnished and the kitchen well-equipped. There was off-road parking opposite with a small paved area behind with patio table and chairs and a lockable shed where we could store our bikes. There was sun all day on the patio, so we could have breakfast and early evening drinks there. We liked having a smart TV in our bedroom. The resident neighbours were friendly. There was a pub serving meals within a short walk in the village and a small shop at the local garage for groceries. This was an ideal location for exploring the Yorkshire Wolds and also the seaside resorts of Bridlington, Filey and Scarborough. There were lots of quiet minor roads for cycling on although I'm glad we had e-bikes for assistance up the many hills!

An absolutely amazing gem of a place! We loved it so much, we even asked to stay another night and my parents have booked for later in the year. Very comfortable, it is small but perfectly done with all facilities available. Lovely decorated throughout. Would love to come back in the summer. Also, the local pub is brilliant and lots of places to walk with Bridlington close by via car. Thank you to Claire, we love your place!
