I actually liked everything about the place, yes the rooms do need decorating but that would cost a lot because of its 37 rooms. But the rest of the hotel has lots of original features which again really appeals to me. The downside was the very noisy and disrespectful neighbours in the next room who had security called out to them twice. That's NOT a fault of the hotel or its staff.

The location is stunning, looking out to the bay. Breakfast was a standard fry up which I cleared my plate every morning. You also have a good choice of cereals and fresh juices. Made a good start to each day.

It was a bit shabby and the shower was very ropey.

Good location, very friendly, catered for our dog as well and he was allowed with us for breakfast and in the bar. Lovely view from the window. On site parking though a little tight. Very nice breakfast.

Thought a little overpriced, could include breakfast in the price. A little tired looking but otherwise a great place to stay.

Location within walking distance of about 10-15 mins of centre and train and ferry port. Bar open to midnight.

The room are incredibly dated. The whole hotel was like stepping into a museum or a time capsule. Every aspect of the place needs updating. Glad I only paid £52 a night for it as anymore would be too dear.

    Staff friendly enough. Good location

It was old fashioned but this was not a problem! We found it quant.

Good value, friendly staff and clean family run hotel. We liked the fact that it had the feel of a 1960's-1970's seaside hotel.

The free Wifi doesn't reach all rooms. The old building can be a bit noisy when people are moving around and slamming doors!

Great location on the edge of the town centre.. Dated but comfortable & clean room. Staff very friendly and attentive. Good selection of bar food available at budget prices.

Main ick was the curtains, will change with immediate effect. Place can keep it's charm even after a bit of TLC (paint, new wallpaper, polish the current furniture).

Place has its charm, was clean and great breakfast. Enjoyed the atmosphere in the evening with the live music and travellers sharing stories.

Place really needs a refurb, bed wasn't comfy and creaked every time I moved, bedroom was small but served it's purpose.

The view was amazing, staff were really nice and helpful. Breakfast was really good. Really enjoyed jam night on the fri night, a few of the locals playing different instruments and singing great atmosphere. 2 free pool tables are great and you can even play your own music through bluetooth in a large room upstairs.

Nothing really. I knew what I was expecting.

So, there are loads of bad reviews about this place so I went in eyes wide open. The hotel is a long established hotel. And yes, cash needs to be invested to bring it up to date. The room was tired looking, but it was clean, comfortable cozy and had all I needed to put my head down for the night. Plus a most stunning view from the room. I chose to stay here over another hotel with my group of friends I was travelling with that Iv stayed in before. The other location there was no way I was spending £100 for a single room very tired and dated. Over breakfast my friends and I compared rooms and I lucked out over all their stays in the Royal across the bay. In my room, everything was functional and the staff are amazing and super friendly.

Hotel is quite dated and our rooms were small, but ok for 1 night as we were catching a ferry the next day.

The breakfast order was taken on arrival to the hotel, cooked to order and waitress served. Although full breakfast doesn't contain baked beans, mushrooms or hash.browns/potato cakes.. Being a coeliac I could only have bacon, egg, tomato and GF toast. It was cooked beautifully and the bacon was lovely and thick. The staff were very friendly and even brought our dog a sausage on his very own plate.

The room and decor was very dated. The hotel is rather run down. Needs some TLC to bring it back to an acceptable level for paying customers. In addition to this a breakfast was not included with the price I paid. Yes I could have paid an additional cost for breakfast, however, this was not clear when I booked.

The location was nice. It was on the sea front
