Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomVery beautiful location, a short detour from the Hadrians wall walk but well worth it to stay in a lovely place and see Lanercost priory a short walk from the B&B. Lovely room, immaculately clean. Really good food and lots of it and a very friendly welcome. One of the nicest places I have ever stayed in.

United KingdomThe potholes on the drive to the courtyard were horrendous and you need a 4 x 4 or tractor!
The room and huge bathroom with roll top bath. Deborah was very welcoming and provided everything we needed to enjoy our wine and cheese. The breakfast was freshly cooked and excellent. It was very peaceful.

United KingdomNothing. I will be returning.
Deborah the owner is a lovely, welcoming person. Attentive and helpful, but not overbearing. Very clean, beautifully decorated, with some wonderful and very thoughtful touches for guests such as: books available to read, bath salts, extra tea/coffee/herbal tea available without having to ask. The home cooked food by Deborah is very generous and delicious.

United KingdomUnfortunately, we weren't offered dinner as our host only had enough for the other guest at the B&B. It was not a problem as we had planned to go for a walk, so we just walked into town, but if we were planning on having dinner there, we wouldn't have been able to.
Was given a very warm welcome by our host, and she was very happy to have a chat with us on arrival. The room was very cosy and welcoming. I absolutely loved that I could watch the baby lambs out our window as they were right outside our window at times. Complete privacy. Our host got up an hour early to make sure we had breakfast before our departure at 7am for which we're very grateful for. Walked into the local town to get fish and chips and managed to find a lovely wood to walk through so nice walking route for walkers.

United KingdomA really nice clean room in a relatively isolated farmhouse near lanercost Abbey and Hadrians Wall. The evening meal and breakfast were magnificent. Really enjoyable stay and excellent t value for money considering the high quality room and how spotlessly clean it was. Massive bonus the lovely big bath as well after a day's walking.

United KingdomNothing, everything was perfect for our stay.
What is not to like about Lanercost Country B&B, Deborah welcomed us at the door and took us through to see the room. Everywhere is tastefully decorated and exceptionally clean, Everything was perfect. Deborah was attentive to the right level, and knowledgeable about the area and things to do. We had already visited Talkin Tarn Country Park for a walk around the water, as well as Lanercost Prior. Both are well maintained, We arrived down for checkout as we thought we were to late for breakfast, Deborah had other ideas and sat us down with a full cooked breakfast, coffee and toast, we had a lovely chat, something you rarely get to with chain hotels. We would of been happy to have stayed serval nights to continue exploring the area. Deborah, thank you for a lovely stay and when we are next in the area we will come and stay again.

United KingdomNothing to fault this Bed and Breakfast
Fantastic location, very quiet and peaceful. Large bedroom with a shower and bath en-suite. Largest en-suite we have ever seen. An excellent breakfast and Deborah was the perfect host. A lovely view from our window with a small river and woodland beyond. Deborah was kind and friendly and couldn't do enough to help us have a great stay. Very clean and tidy. Would recommend Lanercost Country Bed and Breakfast to anyone.

United KingdomI booked a deluxe double room on the basis it was advertised as having a bath. However it had a large shower cubicle. Not much storage space in the room - instead of a wardrobe there is a seating area so if you want to hang anything this can be done in the bathroom on a coat stand. Beautiful decor throughout. Just check first if you specifically want a bath!
In such a peaceful location is this beautiful farmhouse and it’s superb. Bed was comfortable, breakfast delicious & Deborah, the host, couldn’t do enough for you although we didn’t have to ask for anything because she’s thought of everything! Beautiful dining room where breakfast is served and a comfortable cosy lounge to relax in.
