Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

United KingdomThis is just a residential property with shared amenities (living room, kitchen, bathroom) and considering I paid an extra £20 for supposedly my own bathroom that wasn’t the case! Also ended up with two other guests who rocked up to the house at gone midnight and proceeded to make a right racket, drinking and doing god knows what else till the early hours! Considering I’d been driving from the northeast all day and had to set off again at 07:30 in the morning I didn’t exactly get a lot of rest! Would’ve probably be better off kipping in my car!

I checked the instructions I had been sent that day and it said I was allocated to room A.Iwent out to eat and locked the room and turned out the light .When I came back the room was open and the light was on .The man I had originally seen had gone. I did not sleep well as I did not know who had opened the room . I did get a call and a text while I was out to say I was in the wrong room but I had taken the room on the email I had received that day . I later received a message telling me to stay in the same room .

United KingdomIt's not a B&B nor a Guest House, it's a room in a modern semi-detached house in the middle of a rabbit warren of a modern housing scheme with no shops or other facilities nearby. It is not made clear in the description that the bathroom would be shared with all other guests (there are three rooms) and had this been the case, I would not have booked. Tea and coffee facilities consisted of a kettle, two mugs and a jar of coffee - no spoon, sugar, tea-bags or milk sachets. There were shared kitchen facilities (which I found out about later), staff did not make this clear on arrival. The "garden view" was of some grass and a shed. The television was bolted to the wall and at such an angle it was difficult to view. However, since it was a Smart TV and WiFi was so poor this didn't matter too much as there was no reception, 4g on my phone was better.
