Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe would have liked a longer stay and a pity the Watermill cafe wasn't open when we visited, but that's not something that could be helped. It gives us a reason to go back soon.
Hidden gem! Vicky and Mike welcomed us at the property and showed us around. We were very impressed at the care and attention taken to transform this gorgeous old building into a beautiful holiday let. Oven and hob were very easy to use, there is a dishwasher if needed and good sized fridge and freezer, everything a couple needs for a good few days self catering. Off the beaten track and within easy reach of the coast, and Ulverston for shopping. Superb bed and shower! Internet worked really well and able to use Netflix etc on the TV. Lile Cottage is the perfect getaway for us. Be sure to ask Mike and Vicky about Geoff - we managed to catch him as we left the village. Very intriguing place!

United KingdomGleaston is a beautiful, tranquil village setting for a relaxing short break. Mike and Vicky were helpful and welcoming and the cottage was cosy with all modern conveniences and amenities. It was a rare treat being able to take a bath after a long day of trekking in the Lake District. It was extremely quiet at night and the bed was super comfortable so we slept like babies. We were treated to a complementary guided tour of the neighbouring water mill.

United KingdomThe lane to the place itself is quite narrow so take your time when driving to the cottage. Apart from that there's nothing not to like about it
A fantastic place steeped in history, the cottage itself his great and has quality furnishing right through. A very quiet and scenic place too. The mill is just a few steps away and has a delightful café at the side of it...the cakes a top quality. Our host was very warm welcoming eager to make sure we were as comfortable as possible.

United KingdomThere was nothing to dislike everything was perfect 🥰
We loved absolutely everything that this beautiful little cottage had to offer. Was the perfect place for a relaxing romantic getaway. The hosts were extremely welcoming, We were made to feel so welcome and comfortable from the minute we got there until the minute we left. The surroundings were stunning, filled with wildlife and beautiful views. The cottage had everything we needed and even had a bbq that we were able to enjoy on one of the evenings we were there. We would recommend Lile cottage to anyone looking to escape the busy hectic city life. Didn't want to leave but went home feeling extremely relaxed and refreshed. Thank you Vicky and Mike for such a wonderful time ! We can't wait to return !

United KingdomWhat a lovely hidden gem a perfect getaway to recharge. The views were stunning and peaceful and the cottage was beautiful never would you have thought it was originally a pig sty. Host's where amazing and so friendly learnt so much about the history. Could of stayed all day talking and listening to all the stories. The mill museum is defo a must see so much information on the history. How they have not won an award for that museum I don't know. Waking up to that view and wildlife for 3 days was just perfect came home feeling relaxed. Will defo be back.

Location: relatively remote, very peaceful. really appealed to me that I was staying in a listed pigsty! Thick stone walls made it very cool inside. Close wildlife ; many birds & fox just outside.

United KingdomI feel the cottage needs a sofa in the front room as the two chairs are not ideal after a long day walking etc. After chatting with Mike he explained that it’s difficult due to the logistics but I’m sure you could buy a self assembly one. I would also say it needs something so your able to put the blinds down on the skylights as this woke us up every morning. These things are minor and just my preference.
This little cottage is beautiful inside and out. It’s been lovingly restored and is well equipped
