Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaI thought the apartment wasn't particularly clean and could have done with a good spring clean. I also thought the actual house in the street was a bit hard to find. The street was easy, but we were uncertain which property we wanted and had to ask a local gentleman.
Location was good, apartment was large with all facilities. When we found a problem, the host arranged to have it sorted immediately.

PortugalI couldn’t open the windows and I felt the need to air the house. I didn’t ask either so maybe there was a way.
Had everything you need. Far from city but tranquil and cute, comfortable and like home.

United KingdomLiving room sofa set could use an upgrade. Jon and Stephen probably presumed that everyone knows how security deposit and pre-authorisation works, but we didn't. It caused us a bit of stress, seeing another deposit amount being hold after about 6 days of our stay. Here is a bit of info for those who plan to stay more than 5 nights: For a stay that is more than 5 nights Uplisting (vacation rental software) pre-authorise the security deposit after every 5 days. This is because the hold on security deposit is automatically released on the 7th day after the last pre-authorisation. Uplisting re-authorise every 5 days to ensure the host have access to the security deposit. That can create an overlap of deposit amount for about 2 days. If the pre-authorisation is unsuccessful, the security deposit amount will be charged on the guest's card. The host will need to refund the deposit manually from Stripe.
Jon and Stephen were in constant contact with us, responding quickly to our messages. The apartment was very specious, peaceful with window views onto beautiful greenery. We enjoyed large smart TV with lots of app and channel choices. Kitchen had all appliances we needed. Emma is an excellent cleaner, everything was tidy and clean. Location was perfect for us, short bus ride to the centre of town, train station just 10 min walk away to get to Edinburgh.

Well located with easy access to Dunfermline city centre and both train & road routes to all major cities; exceptionally well furnished; clean and nicely decorated; comfortable beds and sofas. clear instructions from the hosts.

United KingdomWhen we arrived at 5pm on a cold November evening, first of all was hit with mouldy damp smell that continued through the apartment, stronger in some areas, it kept me awake as couldn’t stop smelling it. Heating was not on even though our entrance time was still set at covid time of 5pm, temperature was down at 9, took ages to heat up with high ceiling. Also carpet in the stairs was covered in muddy bits indicating it hadn’t been hoovered. This apartment was a lot cleaner the last time we stayed. Also the duvet was made for a king size bed not the super king that was in the room, with the coldness of the flat this was not good
It’s a nice apartment but the standard was poor this time round

United KingdomUnfortunately we found that the apartment could do with a deep clean, and found that things was looking tired, we travel for a family funeral, my brother in-law had the cold bedroom which is the biggest of the two, but ended up sleeping as best he could on the sofa because of the noise coming from the apartment downstairs, so unfortunately he had a terrible experience!!! This property could be beautiful with just a little time effort and a little money spent on it!
Lovely property, and well positioned in dumfermline for what we was here for, very spacious and had everything we needed.

United Kingdom1.) The kitchen was thoughtfully stocked in some areas, a bit lacking in others. 1a.) Good stuff = the "welcome basket" of tea, coffee, sugar and biscuits. We replenished the sugar packets from Costa to say thank-you! Providing foil, large number of drinking and wine glasses etc. HOWEVER: 1b.) There was a surprising lack/low count of some items or lack of quality to items. E.g. as a family of 3 we just managed, but larger parties may struggle with the lack of cutlery. The electric kettle was obviously very cheap and its lid didn't fit properly, causing us to spill hot water everywhere constantly. 2.) We had to re-wash all cups, plates & glasses we found in the cupboard as some were still dirty. Also had to pop into Asda and get larger travel mugs for ourselves as the cups provided were closer in size to espresso cups and we couldn't handle it lol! 3.) Again just surprisingly a bit stingy when it came to the "guest consumables" provided like washing up liquid in kitchen, handsoap in bathroom. It's up to the owners' discretion whether they provide this or not, but I think if they choose to provide - don't provide 95% used-up bottles that have been watered down. (I feel cheap consumables such as these are a worry taken care of for guests, as well as gives it that nice "hotel finish"). I understand why costly consumables like gas/electric/water are controlled, but very cheap ones you can buy economy-sized refills for ... which you're more than welcome to water down a little bit, just maybe don't leave it to 10mls .... I don't understand that. 4.) Owners of apartment may wish to consider providing bath mats, not particularly just for guests' comfort but because I sympathise with house maintenance!
1. A pretty spacious and comfortable apartment, in an extremely convenient area of Dunfermline with parking, easy walking access to large supermarkets and small grocery stores; also comfy walking distance to transport links to central Dunfermline & Edinburgh (incl train station 15-20 mins away & good access to main roads). 2. Apartment provided useful comforts: TV streaming services (only used Netflix can't comment on others), wifi, plenty of mixed power outlets throughout living and bedroom areas (generic power & USB sockets). 3. Very, very spacious bedrooms & bathroom with ample storage space. 4. A little electric radiator was provided in master bedroom as the central heating in that room didn't quite work as well as in other areas. Please note heating is on a timer, we found this moderately okay for us as we left in the late mornings and came back in the evenings, but future guests may wish to check on whether this can be amended particularly if you're staying in autumn/winter months. 5. Agreeably priced. 6. This is a professionally-run holiday let, so even though the approach is very "hands-off" (you will be communicating via pre-written emails most of the time), they've clearly streamlined a lot of FAQs so barring no major issues - the provided communications should be enough to keep your stay hassle-free. Once you get inside the apartment, you do get office-hours & out-of-hours contact numbers you can save to your phone if you need them. We didn't have cause to test their customer response as all was well with us, so hopefully other guests can comment on this.

MaltaThe dishes and cutlery were all smudged and looked dirty (not sure if they were, could have just been pulled out of the dishwasher). Not enough sized bowls. Couldn't find a sponge and tablecloth anywhere.
Beds are super comfortable, and the train station is a few minutes by foot. The owners kept good communication and self check-in was very easy.
