Staff on a whole seemed disinterested, sometimes not even replying to a quiet passing hello and smile. The fact that children can't go in the swimming pool until 5pm after checking in at 3pm and also can't go in until 9am despite it opening at 8. I feel thats to suit people who want to get their laps of swimming in...not fair on the kids and families as a whole. We stayed here 6 months ago without this in place and the staff then were lovely and welcoming. This visit was quite different sadly, even breakfast wasnt as good despite nice black pudding the whole meal came out barely lukewarm. We arent ones to write negative reviews at all and our stay wasnt spoiled by any of this at all....but in 6 months we definitely noticed a change for the worse....

The location, relaxing country views, nice and quiet. Oldly wordly surroundings and nice room with comfortable bed. The black pudding was very nice from Stornoway

Didn’t dislike the property, it was just in need of refurbishing. The shower went cold when neighbouring rooms flushed the toilet and the bedroom needed decorating and a new mattress!

Beautiful location and property but a bit frayed around the edges - tired and lonely in need of some love.

Noisy room. Partition door between our room and next door meant poor soundproofing which resulted in a poor night's sleep.

Could do with some TLC. Room paintwork is quite marked and chipped, along with some of the furniture. Everything is looking a bit worn and tired. Evening meal was in the Linden Tree on-site pub conservatory. Conservatory was very nice and staff were great but thought the cost for what you got was a bit expensive. Plus also could do with a covered walkway to get from hotel to pub when raining.

Very good views. Lovely and quiet, and bed very comfortable. Staff were really good and polite.

I applied for a possible upgrade which I was told I would find out at the checkin if it was possible. However on checkin I was just given my key and not informed about anything. We were not told about any special offers, which we only saw on the desk when checking out. We had booked a table at the onsite pub before arriving. We were shown to our table promptly and the area was lovely. We were given a menu and drinks were ordered. However when the next people arrived a few minutes after us they were offered two different menus to choose from and told about the catch of the day etc. food was delicious slow arriving and by staff that need some training as wiping tables seem to be a priority over the chef shouting for service 3 times. Then we get to the room!! I had done 2 upgrades as we were celebrating a special birthday and my expectations were high. The room itself was light and airy and great views however the furniture was tired and the bed needs binning! Sorry I mean both beds as that’s what we had two beds just pushed together. We both slept very little as it was so uncomfortable. The bed was nice and wide (again 2 beds together) but was incredibly short! Both of us lying down had our feet off the bed. The shower pressure needs improving. Overall we have had much better sleeps elsewhere and were disappointed with our visit.

The hotel was easy to get to and a great location for us. The grounds were well kept and lovely to see out of the window. There is so much character and charm around the hotel which is nice to see. Breakfast staff were an assist to the hotel. We could have done with more tea or hot water with breakfast but they provide a good selection overall.

Drink prices. £24 for breakfast. An average sausage, 1 piece of bacon, black pudding, half a tomato, half a mushroom and a potato scone that could break bricks. Scrambled egg was OK. The toast never turned up. Coffee was average.

The house, the idea of the pub.

Some areas of hotel could do with freshen up. We had complaints from the room next to us regarding the level of noise from the TV! I can categorically say the TV was not loud, I suspect the separating walls are quite thin as we heard his baby crying all night.

Beautiful property and beautiful grounds, lovely swimming pool and spa facilities. The on site pub served delicious food.

Room was sold as a ‘suite’ and was just a double room with an extra bed rammed in for our son. It was a squeeze. I would rather have paid 1/4 of the price for a standard room.

Food very poor quality and expensive Our room had a connecting door and that meant we could hear all the noise from the adjoining room, keeping us awake late into the night The staff seemed under pressure and calls to room service were not answered At £200 a room I didn’t expect to be charged extra for breakfast choices that were not a fry up

Phoned and asked for 2 single beds, the room was made up as a king size on arrival. When I asked why this had happened, I was told they sent a message asking which I wanted on the day of departure!! But I had rung the day before with my request. We had to wait around whilst the bed was changed. Gym is very small, cramped if there are 4 people in there. A lot of the free weights were missing, some equipment not working.

Breakfast, a good selection, nicely presented. A very good full English. Although there was a charge if you wanted the scrambled eggs and smoked and smoked salmon. The house and grounds are lovely, the rooms and beds were comfortable. The staff are very helpful.
