Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomHouse was a little cool at times. Couldn't find a clothes airer for washing after using the washing machine. A shame that the local bus service was stopped this summer - nothing to do with Maggie!
Cottage was in centre of Allonby and close to the pubs and other amenities. Shower was good and kitchen had all we needed.

United KingdomBed was a little small.
Beautiful area , quiet and peaceful with lots of lovely walks - a car would be needed to explore more widely. The accommodation was centrally located and near the beach. It was very clean , had everything we needed, including a modern bathroom and great shower. We felt it provided good value for money.

United KingdomThough I rate the property highly the ONLY down side is the rear small, enclosed courtyard aspect. To be fair that's not what you look at and it does ensure a silent night's sleep. That tiny negative is totally outweighed by the positives and the calming atmosphere of the property.
Location perfect for stomping around the northern and western lakes and along the Solway coast. The property is at the opposite end of the village to the busy parking and tourist bustle so a good place to be if you want to take a walk up the coastal dunes or just "shoot the breeze" whilst sitting on the bench outside.... and when there is a breeze fresh air is compulsory!! Cozy retreat and lounge is so spacious you can enjoy an evening in with guests.

United KingdomAbsolutely nothing, except the weather could have been nicer to us, but it was December xmas time and we still loved it.
A home away from home. West View cottage didn't disappoint, we loved our stay here. Bed so comfortable, slept like babies. The kitchen had all that we needed. With an upstairs lounge the view during the summer across the bay must be amazing. We were there in December, so didn't always get a good view. Fantastic shower, bathroom hot water on demand. The beach is just amazing miles and miles of stoney/sandy walkable beach. We loved it for collecting such a lot of sea glass and sea pottery, couldn't get enough of it. Our cockapoo Maddie loved it meeting up with new doggy friends. If it had been warmer we would have spent longer on the beach.

United KingdomI could of done with a sturdier pillow.
Just what we wanted, a comfortable cosy retreat, next to the beach. Tea room next door serves a great bacon baguette. Food from Surf bar was good and well priced. Friendly welcoming pub.

United KingdomEverything was great with respect to the cottage but the fish and chip shop which was stated on the website as being nearby had been permanently closed a few weeks before our arrival. As the cottage was self-catering this made things a little trickier with respect to food as the local ice cream shop did not stock much by way of food.
The cottage was quiet and peaceful in a good location for walking my dog. It was ideal to come back to the cottage after a hard days work and relax. Parking was right outside the door and the cottage contained everything required for a comfortable stay. I would definitely return.

United KingdomNothing to dislike. The only downfall is, i wish I had found this place before as we have been visiting Allonby for years.
Great location, very clean and well maintained. I am sure I read there was no internet WiFi, but there is. Good location right in the centre of Allonby.

United KingdomHaving the bedroom and the bathroom on different floors with quite steep stairs between was a bit frustrating, but that is my fault for drinking green tea late at night. To be fair, the description does give full warning of this. Perhaps we are just getting old!
The location was wonderful, it was great to be so close to the sea and parking was really easy. The view from the living room was ever changing. The kitchen was well-equipped and the shower was marvellous. The chairs were joyous - such pretty colours - and very comfortable too.

United KingdomUnusual layout. Steep stairs. Poor quality pillows and quilt. A couple of pasta bowls would have been nice. Loose pan handle. Stair rail seemed to have loads of polish on, and you really need a good grip as the stairs are steep.
Clean and beautifully presented . Fantastic location. Lovely view from lounge upstairs. Lots of special touches . Bath towels, hand-wash , shampoo, facecloths, and shower gel provided. Kitchen towels , cleaning products, tea bags, coffee , and some condiments provided( much appreciated), Located near a bus stop and cafe and pub.
