Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe bed had sheets but no blankets. Fortunately, as the weather was reasonably warm, this was not too much of a problem.
Madingley Hall is an imposing building in a beautiful setting, yet nevertheless manages to offer comfort and tranquility.

United KingdomParts of the cooked breakfast at 8.30 had been lying for much too long. Some items, like scrambled eggs and fried eggs, need to be cooked in small batches or they quickly become inedible.

United KingdomCould certainly do with a proper clean and a coat of paint as a little tired. Quite noisy so many people going to and fro. Breakfast disappointing, no coffee available and a request for boiled eggs was met with a flat no, we do not do special requests. Receptionist in the morning not very helpful.
Stunning building and grounds with the opportunity to have a walk and explore. Comfortable room offering a good night's sleep.

AustraliaThe rooms are quite old and plain, but we knew that beforehand.
Brilliant historical building and grounds to explore. Breakfast was in the oldest part of Maddingley Hall and had enough variety for us. The grounds were great to roam around as were the other rooms which made up the Hall. Staff were fabulous and parking included. The local American WW2 cemetery and museum was worth a visit too. The location gave us easy access to Cambridge via the local Park and Ride

Fabulous venue, with history, style and simplicity at a very reasonable price. Nice garden, good atmosphere. One feels at ease. Help to get a parking space at Clare College for Sunday evensongs a definite plus.

United KingdomBreakfast was ok, but the cooked breakfast had been sitting under the heated lights for a while, and was lukewarm, couldn’t eat it Bedrooms ok, shower was very poor. Hairdryers need ‘defluffing’.
The location and the building were lovely. The evening meal in the terrace bar was excellent, as was the service. All staff were accommodating, professional and welcoming.

United KingdomThe food in the bar in the evening was poor and as the doors were open to the outside, it was far to cold to sit there. We would like to have known about that when we phoned in advance to ask about what was available, then we could have made other arrangements. The room was cold and the radiator valve seemed to be broken. Food at breakfast was cold and on cold plates; cutlery ran out and there was no-one to ask for more It isn't a criticism, but I think there should be some warning that the building has a lot of stairs to get to almost all of the rooms. It wasn't a big problem for us, but I can see it might be for others (and carrying soup and wine from the bar was tricky).
This is a beautiful property with wonderful views. The room was OK for two people, although smaller than the pictures suggested. The choice of food at breakfast was good. Good choice of wine in the bar. Good range of tea/coffee in the bedroom.

United KingdomThe room wasn't very clean with mould in the bathroom and cobwebs in the bedroom, wi-fi was hopeless. The shower had no pressure and the rail was loose. The room wasn't serviced until we asked. We were also in a very gloomy room with plants right up to the windows making it dark. The room was miles away from the entrance and we had to walk up and down corridors and stairs. The breakfast felt like being at Hogwarts!! lack of cutlery and some of the food was cold. Chairs are stained in the bar and food and drinks are expensive.
The location, Hall & Gardens was absolutely stunning as was the proximity to the places we wanted to visit. The Terrace bar was nice but expensive

United KingdomThe shower in the disabled room we had was very dated and had a feeble flow with no temperature regulator. This needs urgent attention but I have raised it with the team who will prioritise its replacement.
Location is fabulous, an Elizabethan manor. Set in private grounds, peaceful, no traffic noise. Only 10 minutes from Cambridge by car. Very helpful staff, a special mention for Andrew. Great breakfast. Easy car parking. Lovely old building. Lovely garden. In room facilities include tea and coffee, tv, fridge, iron and ironing board.
