Room very small , shower didn’t get hot

there is no service in the day time, you cant get food or a drink on the bar as the bar only opens @6pm. you have to book your breakfast time, i never had to do this in a hotel it was always between times but never a booked time

The room we had was very nice and spacious just very warm, we had some bathrobes and they came very handy when we used the spa. the breakfast was good just you need to book a time that's unusual for a hotel

However, the changing rooms in the spa were tatty and dirty towels lying around. There were hoovers left out of cupboards along the corridors in the hotel - just looks really scruffy. The man running the restaurant was quite grumpy, telling us we had to eat in the bar when we wanted to sit in the restaurant, even though it was still open. We asked again and he was quite apologetic, explaining he'd been working really hard. (This is not an official complaint.)

I liked the spa; our bed was comfortable too - and the food in the evening was alright.

Breakfast was very varied, but (personally) I felt lacked quality. But was very adequate. Good selection of food and drinks for breakfast. Apart from that had no complaints.

On arrival we were given a compact economy room , that had no view, and was as hot as a green house. We went to reception and explained it was unacceptable. And to give them credit ,changed the room to another ,larger family room on the other side of the hotel. Perfect. ( to be honest , it was the quality I would have expected to begin with). Other than that the hotel was excellent, tastefully decorated and maintained. Wonderful grounds, for golf, walks etc. very relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

The service in the restaurant and bar area was very poor not welcoming and we didn't feel they wanted to be there as if everything was a problem On booking our trip away we wasn't told about a wedding being held there and therefore we were unable to use the restaurant and bar area for lunch we had to take a trip into town town to find somewhere

The property was comfortable and staff at reception were helpful the value for money that we paid for our stay was good

No information regarding the hotel in the rooms at all. Would have been good to have had a menu and information regarding times of meals etc . No instructions how to use the pod hot chocolate machine, not sure if it was broken! Would have been nice to have more lunch times snacks as we did arrive early. Otherwise lovely relaxing stay.

Lovey location and room was massive, very comfortable. Beautiful old Building, leisure facilities were great. nice pool and other facilities. Staff helpful and the evening meal and breakfast were very good with a large choice for the Buffett breakfast.

Dining room and nearby entry areas cold and drafty. External doors and windows left open. Had to eat my full English quick but always cold by the time I finished! Had to keep asking for fire exit doors in dining room to be closed. Management needs to sort this. Another easy win if this could be resolved.

Suite was nice, but needed better pillows which were small for the bed and hard!

I couldn’t get anything to eat at lunchtime in the hotel so had to go to Tesco to buy a sandwich.

The food was pretty basic and the food presentation was poor. My steak was very well done when I ordered it Medium.

Fantastic location, beautiful setting and staff are helpful. A huge call out to Joe in the restaurant on being attentive to me and my wife as soon as we walked through the door till the moment we left. Very professional and friendly. I manage two restaurants and three bars at Matfen hall hotel which has just been awarded its 5* and Joe’s service he offered to us was 5* service. Really made our stay. Thank you

No air conditioning in room so was really warm. Windows don't open very far. Will be unbearable in the summer. They provide a tower fan but it's not much use. Beds not very comfortable and pillows really hard

Spotlessly clean room with nice bathroom and good working shower in the bath. Generous supply of tea, coffee and biscuits.

Breakfast was OK - would have preferred proper porridge rather than a packet thing... and I loathe those toasters that take at least 3 goes to get the bread browned!! Most unhappy that the room wasn't made up during my 3 night stay; if you don't provide a full service then you should inform your guests at the time of booking and give a discount, as part of the pleasure of staying in a hotel is NOT making my own bed or cleaning the bathroom! The general air was of tired decor and below par cleanliness in the general areas.

My room was very big and comfortable but it wasn't particularly clean. Not sure the last time it was hoovered but lots of bits in the carpet and dust under the bed was clear to see. Bed was very clean

Breakfast was lukewarm to be totally honest. I went to eat at 7 40am. All under heat lamps and none of it hot.

Couldn't check in to the room until 4pm and the check out was early at 10am. The steam room didn't feel like it was working correctly.

Nice hotel set in well maintained grounds beside the golf course with easy access to parking. The suite was a good size with a large comfortable bed and TV. The bathroom had a massive bath and a really good spacious shower.

How about cleaning the room, it wouldn’t hurt to dust, clean the bathroom sink, and if you like no fresh air and temperatures in excess of 23 degrees then this is the place for you, with no way to turn the temperature down.
