Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe hotel was a little out of the way and you needed to walk a long distance or take public transport to get into town. The deliveries early in the morning on our last day woke us up.
Lovely hotel, located on the campus of Edinburgh University. The staff were lovely, really helpful and couldn't do enough for us. The room was larger than expected and felt clean and new.

United KingdomWe were confused by the curtains to the angled/skylight window in our room on the first night, which couldn't be closed and hung 3 feet from the window - turned out to be completely misleading, pointless decoration as we later discovered the pull-down blinds in the window frames. A little sticker or leaving the blinds slightly pulled down would have been a great clue to their existence, or getting rid of the curtains completely would have made us look harder for the existence of something else. Bathroom is a little style over substance - huge shower with two types of showerhead, but the half-panel doesn't reach far enough so expect lots of water on the floor, and there's no wall bracket or basket to put shower gel/shampoo etc., it all has to go on the floor of the shower. No hooks to hang your bath towels on (the short towel rack in the recess behind the toilet is fine for presentation but not much use to hang 2 bath sheets in a way that they will dry). Bed and pillows extremely soft so if you prefer firmer, maybe check ahead if they have alternatives or bring your own.
Excellent welcoming and friendly staff. Great location for Southside and walkable to city centre in 25mins, or served by several bus routes. Very convenient for Holyrood park, Arthur's seat and Salisbury crags. On-site restaurant, bar and breakfast all great, and whole hotel done in a clean, modern style with some character. Very good sized room with plenty of storage and generous amenities (large bottles of shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, hand soap and hand lotion, fully stocked tea & coffee tray with Nespresso-type machine). Peaceful outdoor seating/garden area which we didn't use but looked lovely to relax in. Don't be put off by it being on a university halls site, it was very quiet the whole time we were there.

United KingdomDinner service wasn’t good, we had to wait 20 minutes for our order to be taken and one hour for our food, and this with the restaurant being mostly empty. Food quality wasn’t great either. While I get that this is a university hotel, it would be nice to see the state of the service reflected in the food prices, which was definetely too high considering.
Great position, lovely big room. The staff is very helpful and kind. The room was big, very clean and comfortable.

United KingdomThe parking was a bit difficult as there seems to be a limited amount of spaces in the nearby lot, however staff were very helpful in informing us where we could park and with providing a parking permit for the night within the hotel grounds. We did have a little bit of a walk from the car park to the hotel but it wasn't a massive deal as we were still within a good range of the hotel
The room was very spacious and clean, the bathroom was very big and modern, also very clean. The location of the hotel was very central to what we needed and the staff were lovely and very friendly/helpful

AustraliaThere was NOTHING AT ALL to dislike.
The hotel had a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere and I appreciated most of all the unceasing engagement, enthusiasm and politeness and "happy to look after you" attitude of the lovely staff members. Our room was very comfortable, had a beautiful view, and the bathroom very easy to use. I'd love to stay with "The Scholar" again. Many thanks to Shannon and Cheryl. Their service and care was outstanding.

United KingdomThe television didn’t work properly. The channels were very limited (there were no BBC channels) and those that were there were heavily pixelated. We reported it but nothing was done. The wi-fi was unreliable. We were pleased there was a coffee maker but that didn’t work either.
The room was spacious and clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was good value for money.

NetherlandsThe location was very convenient for us as we were visiting the University. It is in a quiet location. The restaurant was very nice. The staff in reception and the restaurant were very helpful and nice and solved all our requests: taxi, kept the luggage for the day, allergies… the wifi was good both for breakfast and dinner. It felt quite distinguished to my family. The decoration was good. The room was not very spacious but big enough for us.

United KingdomThe gentleman who checked us in shirt could have done with a press. I thought the breakfast a little expensive although delicious. My double room was difficult to pass by bed to get to tea & coffee facilities as so close to wall (room 319)
Nice and quiet location with free parking. The staff were polite and friendly with a special mention to Cheryl on breakfast service. The toiletries provided were loverly and beds very comfortable. Loverly little bar area which served delicious sandwiches which were huge!

Great location under Arthur’s seat. The beds and pillows were so comfy. All the staff were very friendly especially the breakfast staff and Cheryl ordered some sausages for our dog which I thought was lovely. If you’re bringing a dog it’s a great hotel to visit. The shower and the toiletries provided were quality.
