Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsNothing particular comes to mind.
The breakfast will spoil you for the rest of you life. Every day it is special breakfast in a Georgian setting dining room. The hotelrooms are cozy and romantic by design, quiet and spacious. The location was an absolute pre, away from the massive tourisme and the busline(s) will take you every 5 minutes into town. The ride into Old town will take you only 8 minutes, in heavy traffic, from the busstop in front of the hotel. And take you back to the hotel whenever you want, with bars like the Old bell in walking distance

United KingdomThis was a beautiful property, with gorgeous fittings and decor. The bed was really comfortable too. The owners were lovely and welcoming and the breakfast was possibly the best I’ve ever had in a hotel. being from Edinburgh originally and having recently moved west I know the area well. it’s in a great part of the southside, fifteen to twenty minutes walk to the old town and Waverley Station but nicely quiet and well served by busses. next time we have to stay over in Edinburgh it will be here for sure.

United KingdomNothing, it is faultless.
Faultless. Warm welcome from the hosts who were more than happy for us to arrive at 9am and leave the car to get the bus into the city centre for the day. Grounds and rooms spotless and smelled lovely with reed diffusers. Rooms all decorated traditionally to a very high standard. Breakfast was better than we have had from any 5* luxury hotel. Good quality bedding, towels and toiletries. Great location with several buses into the city centre from outside hotel. Cant wait to return.

CanadaThis property was all about the details - every part of the experience had been thought through. Along with a beautiful guest lounge with high speed internet and an honesty bar for alcohol, our room was very clean and intentional. The shower was great, the selection of bath soaps were remarkable, and the breakfast that was provided was beyond other places. The owners were a cute couple, and if it had been possible we would have extended our stay at 23 Mayfield for a few more nights. The internet was reliable and fast, as well as the decorations of the room being top tier!

United KingdomMy husband and I stayed here during the New Year on our first visit to Edinburgh. This was our first guesthouse experience. It would be surprising if we ever come across anywhere better in the future! It's all downhill from here. The guesthouse is extremely cosy. This is the kind of house you would imagine in a historical fantasy novel set in Edinburgh. Everything in the house was carefully chosen by its owners down to the smallest detail. For instance, my husband appreciated the Punch Comics on the wall dating back as early as the 1830s, whilst I appreciated the cutlery, the water you get served in your room with the hand-picked rosemary from their garden, the antique books they had on display, the astrolabe in the dining room, and so on. The food you get served in the morning is gourmet, looks good and tastes even better. The owners take care of the place themselves: they welcome you into the house and wish you goodbye, they cook the food, they do the cleaning and maintenance, etc. Overall: Not only does this place get a 10/10 but it has inspired us to only (or mostly) stay at guesthouses from now onwards. United KingdomI can't fault 23 Mayfield - I loved it.
Location was great - an easy journey into central Edinburgh - but with good bars and restaurants in the locality. The breakfasts were superb. I am gluten free and I was accommodated, even getting my own version of the daily "specials", which were unbelievably good. My daughter is vegetarian and said the veggie breakfasts were also delicious. The hosts were warm, welcoming and friendly and the guest house itself was superb - classy and tasteful decor, and a well stocked honesty bar too. We had a really lovely weekend and will definitely return.
