Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

This was our first stay. We were very impressed with the whole experience. Staff were welcoming. The food both dinner and breakfast was excellent. The hotel sits in lovely grounds. Our room, we booked a suite, The Ribble Suite was very comfortable with the most amazing four poster bed. Our only initial concern was the height of the base of the bed to get in and out of (we are in our seventies) however we coped admirably! The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was large with a bath and a walk in shower. We couldn’t fault the hotel, would happily recommend it and we will return.

United KingdomGreat staff and care and attention in a warm environment full of history, much more comfortable than all the ultra modern hotels that are grey and beige and like a posh clinic with zero atmosphere!

United KingdomAlthough there were two fans in the room. It was absolutely sweltering all night and we barely slept plus we had the dog with us. He was up and down and panting all night and we had to keep putting him in the shower. Drive home was gruelling the next morning. Not sure if we were above the kitchen or not, it was room 106.
Hotel is absolutely beautiful and when we walked in it was just so cozy and I thought I wonder what this would’ve looked like at Christmas. We had a drink by the fire late at night and I didn’t want the night to end. Would love to stay again if I could afford it in the future.

United Kingdomhad a standard basic room ( 110) which was fine for the cost. Just a couple of notes - there is very little room from the toilet to the sink, its really cramped for anyone of a certain size.. I am average and skinny! The shower tray was not clean, found some unpleasant hair... not the biggest deal but not great nor expected. And bizarrely, there were crumbs (probably from cookies) and lint in the drawers beneath the tea and coffee unit, so did not want to put my clothes in any of the drawers..presumably sloppy room cleaning. Bed was very comfortable and the room overall was fine.
Great location, stunning hotel, very friendly staff and great bar food menu.. had the haddock, was fresh and really tasty, good selection of drinks, pretty cool ambience and decoration in the main room. Breakfast was also great and included in the room price !

United KingdomNo fitness room as far we are aware but were not expecting this.
The hotel is very atmospheric in a historical sense and we were pleasantly surprised when we walked through the main door. The cooked breakfast was excellent but there was a more limited choice for the continental breakfast although there was a bowl of fresh fruit salad and some tasty croissants, cereals etc. We chose a standard room on this occasion which was a bargain as it included breakfast. Although the photo of the room was small, it was in fact, modern and comfortable with all the usual amenities. Would love to try a suite on another occasion as there are were good deals.. great Xmas tree apparently arriving soon!

United KingdomOur family room was spacious, however the single bed's mattress was uncomfortable and I would suggest requires replacement. Children who sleep well equates to happy parents :)
We booked Mitten Hall for it's location which was close to an event we were attending. Hotel was charming with lots of character. Staff were efficient and pleasant. Breakfast was of good quality and well presented. Our trip was mid-week when the hotel was quiet.

United KingdomUneven floors and stairs hazardous for elderly (and tipsy) customers. Bathroom in older rooms modernised but as usual with hotels hasn't got enough shelving and no hand grip to make getting out of bath/shower easier.
Interesting old building with modernised facilities. Poor weather scuppered opportunity to see the grounds which looked interesting.
